Pentel Aquash Water Brushes: Three Tip Sizes for a Small Paint Kit
THE BUYING TAKE
A useful assortment for regular small watercolor sessions: water travels in the handle, and three tip sizes cover different parts of a sketch. Choose it when you will use the range and maintain the brushes.
Best for
Watercolor sketchers and journal artists who want a compact refillable brush setup and regularly move between small details and broader patches of color.
The trade-off
Water flow takes practice, pigment still needs wiping and cleaning, and reservoirs need refilling. This pointed-tip three-pack does not include the separately sold flat or mini brushes.

A small watercolor kit is easy to pack until you need somewhere to put a water cup. Pentel Aquash water brushes carry a refillable water supply in their handles. A gentle squeeze sends water toward the tip, giving you a way to paint when the available surface is mostly occupied by a sketchbook and palette.
The selected FRHBFMBP3 pack contains three brushes: small, medium, and large. It is an assortment for changing the size of a mark, with the same water-delivery idea in each handle. Paint, suitable paper, and a little practice still belong in the kit.
Water travels with the brush
With a reservoir in the handle, the brush can stay ready on a crowded surface. Fill it with water before beginning, then use the soft barrel to feed the nylon tip while working with watercolor or another suitable water-soluble medium. You can return to a damp brush without repeatedly dipping into an open cup.
That arrangement is useful for a quick color study at a small table or a sketch outdoors. It reduces the need to find a separate place for an open water container during painting. It does not remove the need to bring enough water for refilling and cleaning.
Pentel describes a squeeze-controlled flow and a translucent barrel that lets you see the remaining supply. Begin with a light squeeze and check the tip on spare paper. A stronger grip is not automatically better: the amount of water on the page affects how the color spreads.
Expect to learn that response. The brush supplies water, but it cannot decide how wet a particular passage of the picture should be.
Three tips give the same kit a wider range
Three tip sizes let you choose how much of the page to cover. You can move from a small detail to a broader area by changing brushes, rather than asking one size to do every job.
Try the small tip around a narrow shape, the medium for the main subject, and the large for a broader area of color. These are useful starting assignments, not fixed line-width ratings. Pressure, angle, paper, and the amount of water also influence the mark.
The exact three-pack contains pointed brush tips. Pentel sells flat and mini versions separately, so check the contents instead of assuming every Aquash assortment is identical. The original package and its accompanying product photograph show the three selected sizes together.
An assortment is most useful if your drawings regularly call for that range. If you only add a few small touches of color to a journal, one appropriately sized brush may already cover the task.

A clean tip matters when the color changes
Carrying water inside the handle does not keep the brush tip free of pigment. Before moving from a dark color to a pale one, release some water and wipe the tip on kitchen paper or a similar absorbent material, as Pentel's care guidance describes.
Keep that wiping material beside the palette. Check the next stroke on scrap paper before bringing the brush back to an area you want to keep light. This is a practical working habit, not a claim that every pigment will rinse away at the same rate.
The brush is meant to work with suitable water-based painting materials. Watercolor pencils can be part of that setup. Before planning to blend colored-pencil marks with water, check that the pencil maker explicitly identifies them as water-soluble.
Follow the materials' directions and clean the brushes after the session. Refilling a reservoir is convenient; leaving pigment on the tip is still a separate maintenance problem.
Pack for the picture you want to make
For a compact kit, the appealing combination is water close to the tip and three sizes ready for different parts of a sketch. Check that the brushes, palette, paper, and wiping material fit together in the space you expect to use.
Large wet backgrounds may still be more comfortable with a conventional brush and a separate water container. A reservoir also needs replenishing, so do not treat it as an unlimited supply for a long outing.
Choose this Aquash set when small watercolor sessions are a regular activity and switching tip sizes would earn its place in your bag. Its value is a more self-contained brush routine, with water control and cleanup left in your hands.
