Levoit Core 200S vs 400S: Size the Room, Then Choose Auto Mode
Both support VeSync schedules. The compact Core 200S suits a smaller room with user-selected speeds; the Core 400S adds more airflow and particle-based automatic adjustment, with a larger body to place.
Choose Core 200S for a suitably small room and scheduled manual-speed operation. Choose Core 400S when the room needs its higher rated airflow or you specifically want particle-driven Auto Mode.

An app schedule cannot make an undersized air purifier fit a larger room. Before choosing between the white Levoit Core 200S and Core 400S, identify the room where the machine will stay. Then decide whether you want to select its speed yourself or let a particle sensor adjust it.
Both offer VeSync control, so app access alone is not the deciding difference. The Core 200S combines a smaller body with manual speeds and Sleep Mode. The Core 400S offers higher rated airflow, a PM2.5 display and sensor-driven Auto Mode. Those differences matter more than the biggest coverage number on a listing.
Compare room size at the same frequency
Levoit's current US specification tables put the Core 200S at 140 square feet and the Core 400S at 358 square feet when each is described at 4.8 air changes per hour. This is the useful comparison because the frequency is the same.
The same tables also give much larger areas at just one air change per hour: 672 square feet for the 200S and 1718 for the 400S. Do not compare one model's once-hourly headline with the other's repeated-air-change figure and conclude that the smaller machine handles a similar job.
Current published CADR is 90 CFM for the 200S and 231 CFM for the 400S. These rated figures help explain their different room-size positioning. They do not mean every speed, quiet setting or real room delivers the maximum rated airflow.
Start with a named room rather than the combined floor area of an apartment. A machine in the living room does not establish equal filtration behind closed bedroom doors. If the intended space exceeds either model's useful sizing, choosing between these two is the wrong first question.
Decide who will change the speed
On the Core 200S, you choose low, medium or high, with a separate Sleep Mode. This is a sensible arrangement if you want a predictable setting and a schedule. Its night-light and display-off controls are also separate, so turning off the display does not automatically turn off the night light.
The Core 400S adds a laser particle sensor and PM2.5 readout. Auto Mode changes fan speed according to its particle readings. That is a concrete reason to choose it when you want adjustments based on detected particles rather than only a clock.
Understand what that control does before paying for it. The sensor does not detect odors, so a favorable particle reading cannot prove that a cooking smell has gone away. Standard Auto also does not use turbo speed; the manual distinguishes other app modes from this standard behavior.
Both offer Sleep Mode, but quieter operation is a different operating choice from maximum airflow. This comparison includes no matched noise measurements or promise that one will be inaudible in your bedroom. Choose the routine you expect to use, not an assumption that every mode performs identically.
The 200S measures 8.1 by 8.1 inches at its footprint and 12.6 inches tall. The 400S measures 10.8 by 10.8 inches and 20.5 inches tall. The compact model can therefore be easier to accommodate, provided its room sizing is adequate.
Body dimensions are only the start. Keep the intake and outlet clear, follow the supplied placement instructions and remove the filter's protective packaging before first operation. A narrow gap beside furniture may fit the cylinder while obstructing the airflow it needs.
VeSync scheduling can make either purifier part of a room routine. Include network setup in the decision if that feature matters; basic on-unit controls and connected functions are different conveniences.
Neither purchase ends with the machine. Filters need attention and periodic replacement, and a filter indicator is a prompt to inspect rather than permission to ignore visible loading. Check the correct replacement filter's availability and cost.
Choose the 200S when smaller-room sizing, compact placement and scheduled chosen speeds meet the need. Choose the 400S for its higher room rating or particle-driven adjustment. Keep the room, operating mode and maintenance plan together when deciding.
THE CHOICES
Which one fits your job?
01LEVOIT Core 200S-P / Core 200S — White / Standard 1 Pack
WHY CONSIDER IT
Choose the compact body when its smaller-room airflow rating fits the intended space.
Set a chosen speed and a VeSync routine without needing particle-driven automatic changes.
THE LIMITS
No particle-sensor Auto Mode. The 672-square-foot headline uses only one air change per hour.
Clear airflow space, filter inspection and periodic replacement remain necessary.
02LEVOIT Core 400S-P / Core 400S — US white standalone
WHY CONSIDER IT
Choose a higher rated airflow and room-size position than the compact 200S offers.
Let detected particles influence fan speed rather than relying only on a chosen speed or schedule.
THE LIMITS
The larger body still needs clear airflow space; one unit does not establish equal filtration in several closed rooms.
Particle readings do not measure odors, and standard Auto is not maximum airflow.
Filter and sensor care remain ongoing ownership tasks.
