Levoit Core 300-P vs 400S-P Air Purifiers: Room Size or Smart Control?

Compare the same air-change frequency before choosing a size. Core 300-P favors compact direct controls; Core 400S-P adds particle-based adjustment and app schedules.

OUR BUYING TAKE

Choose 300-P for a suitably sized smaller room and direct controls; choose 400S-P for its larger room reference and useful smart routine.

Choosing between the Levoit Core 300-P and Core 400S-P starts with one room and the controls you want to use in it. Both are fan-and-filter air purifiers, so they are alternatives for the same purchase. The meaningful differences are the room-sizing reference, body size and the way you manage everyday operation.

This comparison covers the white, manually controlled Core 300-P and the white smart Core 400S-P. The 300-P is not the connected 300S-P. Decide what your room needs before letting a similar product name or the largest advertised coverage figure make the choice.

Compare room sizes at the same air-change frequency

Levoit's current US tables list 222 square feet for the Core 300-P and 358 square feet for the Core 400S-P at 4.8 air changes per hour. Comparing those figures together is more useful than comparing one machine's once-per-hour headline with the other's repeated-circulation figure.

The manufacturer also lists larger areas at one air change per hour. Those describe a different frequency, rather than giving the same performance in a larger space. Start with the room where the machine will stand. A corridor and several closed rooms are not automatically one equally served area.

The 400S-P's larger same-frequency room reference is one reason to choose it when your intended room exceeds the smaller unit's reference. The 300-P can be a more compact choice when the smaller reference fits. Neither number proves identical results in every layout or on every fan setting; use the specification as a planning reference, not a guarantee for your home.

Choose direct settings or sensor-based adjustment

The Core 300-P gives you fan-speed selection, Sleep Mode, a timer and display controls on the unit. That is a buying reason for someone who wants to choose a setting directly and leave phone setup out of the daily routine.

Core 400S-P adds a laser dust sensor and Auto Mode that adjusts fan speed according to detected particles. It also supports VeSync app control and schedules. These are useful reasons to choose the larger model when automatic adjustment and a planned running routine have a clear job.

The boundary is important: the 400S sensor detects particles, not smells. A reassuring display cannot establish that an odor has disappeared. The ordinary Auto Mode also does not select turbo speed. If you want the strongest setting at a particular time, understand the chosen mode instead of assuming automatic always means maximum output.

Fit the controls and the body into the room

The listed Core 300-P body measures 8.7 by 8.7 by 14.2 inches, while Core 400S-P measures 10.8 by 10.8 by 20.5 inches. The smaller body provides a second reason to consider the 300-P where a practical operating position is limited.

Body dimensions alone do not describe a usable position. Leave the clearance required by the relevant manual and keep air paths open. Before choosing either purifier, identify a place where furniture, curtains and daily movement will not continually interfere with it.

Both models offer Sleep Mode and ways to reduce display lighting. A quieter setting is an operating choice, not proof that the maximum airflow continues unchanged. This article does not contain a comparative bedroom-noise test, so it cannot promise which unit you will find less noticeable beside your bed.

For the 400S-P, decide whether you will actually use the connected features. App control adds setup even though the machine also has physical controls. Paying for a feature you will ignore makes less sense than choosing a purifier around a routine you can maintain.

Check replacement filters before choosing the routine

Both machines use replaceable filters. Their included filters must be unwrapped before first use, and ongoing ownership includes checking condition and obtaining the correct replacement. Similar cylindrical shapes do not mean the filters are interchangeable.

Compare current replacement availability and cost for the exact model you choose. Follow its maintenance instructions rather than treating a reminder light or app percentage as proof that inspection is unnecessary. A purifier's daily convenience still depends on filter care.

Choose Core 300-P when its room reference fits and you value the smaller body and direct controls. Choose Core 400S-P when its larger same-frequency reference, particle-based Auto Mode and scheduling justify the extra size and configuration. Choose another arrangement if neither model fits the intended room or you cannot provide a usable position and maintenance plan.
