Wixey WR300 Type 2 Angle Gauge: Read the Bevel from a Reference

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the WR300 Type 2 for repeatable relative-angle setup with a magnetic base and backlight; skip it for absolute leveling, phone output or a tighter accuracy requirement.

Best for
Woodworkers who regularly check relative machine angles and want magnetic mounting, a backlit display and familiar AAA power.
The trade-off
It requires a suitable reference and contact surface; 0.1-degree display resolution is not 0.1-degree accuracy. Type 2 lacks the separate models' built-in level or Bluetooth functions.

A magnetic base and ZERO button help compare machine surfaces, while the backlit display makes the reading visible. Keep its 0.1-degree resolution separate from the stated accuracy.

A bevel setting is only useful if you know what the angle is measured against. The Wixey WR300 Type 2 digital angle gauge is a compact way to compare a saw blade or machine surface with a reference you choose. Its ZERO button and magnetic base are the important buying features: one establishes the reference, while the other holds the gauge against a suitable metal surface.

This is the backlit, single-AAA Type 2 model. It suits a workshop where checking machine angles is a recurring setup task. It does not turn the number on its screen into proof that a finished joint will fit.

Choose it for a relative setup reading

Wixey's documented method starts with the gauge on a reference surface, then moves it to the blade or fence being checked. That makes the tool useful when the relationship between those two surfaces is what matters. You are comparing the machine with its working table rather than relying only on a printed tilt scale.

The practical benefit is a visible number during setup. If you repeatedly change bevel settings, a small gauge gives you another way to check the adjustment before working. Think about the surfaces you need to compare: there must be an appropriate place to establish the reference and a usable contact area on the part being checked.

The reference is also the limit. Pressing ZERO chooses the baseline for that measurement; it does not independently prove that the baseline is level or correct. Wixey sells a separate WR365 with a built-in level function, so buyers specifically seeking that capability should check the model rather than assume every angle cube includes it.

Read resolution and accuracy as different promises

The official Type 2 specifications list 0.1-degree resolution, plus or minus 0.2-degree accuracy and plus or minus 0.1-degree repeatability. Resolution describes the increments displayed. It is not a promise that every shown tenth of a degree is an equally accurate measurement.

That distinction matters when choosing a tool around a project's tolerance. A readable decimal is convenient, but it does not replace the machine manufacturer's adjustment method or the checks your work requires. Decide what accuracy is appropriate before buying on the number of digits alone.

For a planned woodworking setup, a numerical reading can be easier to record than an estimated pointer position on a small scale. Use it to describe the angle you intend to check, then judge whether the gauge's stated tolerance suits that job. Do not take the display alone as a guarantee of the finished cut.

Check contact, visibility and safe placement

The magnetic base can hold the gauge to a suitable steel blade or other compatible metal surface. That reduces the need to keep a hand on the gauge while reading it. It does not remove the need to position it correctly; Wixey's instructions specify keeping the gauge perpendicular to the table.

Its backlight is another concrete benefit when the working position makes an ordinary display difficult to see. The listed body is 2.3 by 2.3 by 1.1 inches. Check both the available contact area and your sightline before assuming a compact cube will fit every machine arrangement.

Wixey requires power tools to be switched off and unplugged before using the gauge. Follow the machine's instructions for adjustment, remove the gauge before operating the tool, and use properly installed guards. The gauge is a setup accessory, not something to leave attached during a cut.

Buy the Type 2 features you will actually use

One AAA battery powers the Type 2, and automatic shutoff helps conserve it. This keeps power management familiar without requiring an app or a charging cable. Bluetooth belongs to the separate WR300BT; do not buy the Type 2 expecting phone readings.

Choose the WR300 Type 2 when a relative reference, magnetic mounting and a backlit angle display answer a regular setup need. Skip it when you need built-in absolute leveling, wireless output or a tighter specified accuracy. The best reason to keep it in the tool drawer is a measurement relationship you understand and actually need to check.
