Audio-Technica ATH-M40x for a Wired Recording and Editing Desk
Consider the cable route, fit and actual audio output before choosing a closed-back monitoring headphone.
A stationary recording or editing setup with a suitable headphone output.
THE BUYING TAKE
Choose the K240 Studio for a defined quiet-room listening task after checking output and fit. Prefer an isolation-focused alternative for live vocal tracking or noisy shared spaces.
The AKG K240 Studio makes sense as a wired listening tool for a quiet desk. Its semi-open design makes room choice, microphone placement, and output compatibility more important than a studio label.

A headphone purchase can fail before the first song plays. Put a semi-open model beside an active vocal microphone, or expect it to block a noisy household, and the problem is the setup. The AKG K240 Studio belongs on a shortlist for a quieter desk where you can listen without demanding isolation. Decide whether that describes your room before comparing specifications.
Imagine editing a spoken interview after the recording session. You need to find a repeated sentence, compare two takes, and check whether an edit interrupts the speaker's rhythm. That is a more useful buying scenario than expecting one pair of headphones to solve recording, commuting, calls, and mixing equally well.
The K240 Studio is a wired, semi-open, over-ear model. Semi-open construction allows sound exchange with the surroundings. Expect less separation from room noise than you would seek from a purpose-built isolation solution, and consider people sitting nearby. This is not active noise cancellation.
For a desk in a shared bedroom, start with the household rather than the shopping cart. If someone is sleeping or taking a call beside you, sound leakage can matter even when you are personally comfortable. A quiet room is part of the purchase requirement, not an optional upgrade later.
Listening back to a recording and monitoring while a microphone is live are different tasks. Sound escaping a headphone can reach a nearby microphone. If you record vocals over a backing track, check for spill during an actual rehearsal before committing to the setup.
For that test, record a short passage with the intended headphone level and microphone position, then listen to the track by itself. Do not assume that lowering the level slightly makes leakage disappear. A closed-back alternative may fit this job better, while the K240 remains a candidate for later editing.
For editing, build a repeatable routine: listen through once, mark problems, then revisit individual cuts. Compare your work at a comfortable, consistent level. Louder playback can make small differences seem more impressive without helping you decide whether the edit is actually better. Final material also deserves a check on another familiar playback system.
AKG specifies 55-ohm impedance and sensitivity of 104 dB SPL per volt. Those figures describe different aspects of the load and output requirement. Impedance alone does not establish whether a particular laptop, interface, or adapter will provide the level and headroom you need.
Start with the headphone output you already own and its documentation. If trying the combination is possible, use familiar material at an ordinary listening level. Do not automatically add a headphone amplifier to the order, or promise that every phone adapter will be sufficient.
The detachable cable is three meters long, with a 3.5 mm plug and a screw-on 6.3 mm adapter. That gives a straightforward route to many audio devices, but the cable also needs somewhere to go. Keep slack away from chair wheels and leave enough freedom to stand without pulling the headphone or source off the desk.

Check that the offer is the black-and-gold K240 Studio, rather than the K240 MKII or an accessory listing. Inspect the seller's package contents and return terms. A familiar product name does not guarantee identical bundles.
Fit deserves its own decision. Ear shape, glasses, and session length affect comfort, and a product photo cannot settle those questions. The non-folding design also calls for a sensible storage place if your desk gets cleared every evening.
Buy the K240 Studio when its quiet-room role is already clear and your output connection is accounted for. Choose a different tool when isolation, a built-in microphone, or compact travel storage is essential. Its strongest reason to enter your workspace is a specific listening task, supported by a room that lets it do that task.
