A useful space-saving option for a compatible high indoor socket; choose a separate fan if clearance, dimmers or your preferred lighting make the combined fixture a poor fit.
Best for
Households with a suitable high E26 socket that want independent fan and light control without a floor stand.
The trade-off
Installation height and socket restrictions; fixed airflow position; cool light; nonreplaceable LEDs; no dimmers or enclosed fixtures.

A bare ceiling bulb can light a work area without moving any air. Bell+Howell’s white 8563 Socket Fan Light adds a small fan at that same point, using an E26 screw base instead of a separate floor stand. The appeal is reclaiming space while keeping a light overhead. The first buying question, however, is whether the socket and ceiling height can accommodate it.
This is the Large white single-unit version, with four blades, a remote and a socket extender. It suits a dry indoor location with a suitable fixed socket and ample clearance. A low ceiling, enclosed light fitting or dimmer-controlled socket makes the idea considerably less straightforward. Check the installation conditions before treating it as a bulb replacement.
Measure the installation, not just the screw base
The assembled fan spans approximately 15.75 inches. That is the blade circle you need to allow for, not the size of the central light. Look at nearby cabinet doors, shelving, beams and anything that could enter that space. The included extender can bring the unit below a recessed socket, but it also lowers the fan; extra reach does not create extra headroom.
The 8563ENCB instructions specify installation at least 10 feet above the floor. They also require a stationary socket, an open luminaire, a dry indoor location and an isolating wall switch. They explicitly prohibit dimmers. A screw thread that fits is therefore only one part of compatibility. This is a 120-volt product, not a universal-voltage travel accessory.
That height requirement can rule out an otherwise tempting room. Measure the finished installation, including any extender, and follow the instructions supplied with your unit. If the fixture, supply or clearance is uncertain, have a qualified electrician assess it before purchase or installation. A separate fan is the simpler choice when the existing light location cannot meet those conditions.

Free the floor without moving the light
For a suitable room, the screw-in format is the strongest reason to consider the 8563. It uses the existing overhead light position and leaves the floor or worktop available for other things. You do not need to find a second place for a fan stand beside a bench or seating area.
There is still assembly: the blades push into their slots until they click. Power must be switched off before fitting the unit. The instructions show holding both sections of the body while screwing it in securely, without overtightening. The fan remains dependent on power at the light socket; “wireless” does not mean battery-powered airflow.
Its fixed position is also a limitation. You cannot angle or move it around like a portable desk fan. Choose it when air movement at the existing fixture is useful, rather than assuming a compact overhead fan will reach every corner of the room or replace air conditioning.
Choose light and airflow separately
The remote provides separate fan and light buttons, each cycling through low, medium, high and off. A third button switches both functions off. This lets you keep the light on without running the fan, or use the fan without keeping the light illuminated. That separation is more useful than simply combining two appliances in one housing.
Bell+Howell specifies a 1,000-lumen light, with the selected white model identified as 5000K cool light. Consider that character before putting it where you prefer a warm evening glow. Three brightness settings change the light level; they do not establish a choice of warm and cool color temperatures.
The wall switch must supply power for remote operation. Turning it off removes power from both functions. The included remote holder gives the controller a consistent place to live, which matters when the controls you need are otherwise overhead.
Accept the upkeep of a combined fixture
The manual identifies the LEDs as nonreplaceable. That makes this a different ownership decision from a conventional fixture where changing a bulb restores the light. Buy it for the combined arrangement, with that service limitation in mind.
Turn the unit off for cleaning and wait until the blades stop completely before handling it. Keep objects and hands away from the moving blades, regardless of the advertised stop feature. The right buyer has a compatible high socket and wants independent light and fan controls without occupying floor space. If fitting it requires compromising clearance or changing a lighting setup you already like, keep the existing bulb and choose a separately positioned fan.
