BLACK+DECKER CBG110S Coffee Grinder: One-Touch Control for Everyday Batches

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose it for compact one-button coffee grinding and published timing guidance; choose a burr grinder or removable-cup design for calibrated repeatability, easier washing, or frequent spice use.

Best for
Households that brew drip or French-press coffee in ordinary batches and prefer direct pulse control over grind settings.
The trade-off
Blade timing is less repeatable than a burr setting, the bowl is fixed and not dishwasher-safe, aroma can transfer from spices, and the manual excludes many moist, oily, hard, or gummy foods.

Article summary

The CBG110S pairs a compact 2/3-cup blade grinder with lid-interlocked pulse control, but its fixed bowl and manual timing suit routine coffee better than precision espresso.

Freshly grinding a small batch of coffee can improve aroma, but a grinder earns its counter space only when its workflow matches the brewer. The BLACK+DECKER CBG110S is a compact blade grinder with a stainless steel bowl and blades, a lid-interlocked pulse button, and a 150-watt motor. Its strongest case is simple, short-burst grinding for drip coffee or a French press without the price or footprint of a burr grinder.

It is not a precision burr mill. The blades chop by time and movement, so consistency depends on load size, pulse length, and how often you stop to check. Buyers who dial in espresso by grind setting, switch among many coffees, or want a removable dishwasher-safe cup should choose a different design.

One button gives useful control, but not burr-grinder repeatability

The clear buying reason is direct pulse control. Secure the lid, press for a few seconds, release, and inspect. BLACK+DECKER's manual gives starting points for a full 2/3-cup load: 10–12 seconds for coarse coffee, 14–16 seconds for medium, and 24–28 seconds for fine. It also says never to run the grinder for more than 30 seconds at a time.

That range makes the CBG110S approachable for someone who wants one button rather than programs or numbered settings. The tradeoff is repeatability. A blade grinder cannot hold a calibrated gap like a burr grinder, and a smaller load may not behave exactly like the manual's full-bowl timing. Use the published times as a starting point, pulse in short bursts, and stop before overprocessing.

The 2/3-cup bowl fits ordinary home batches

The manual sets the maximum coffee-bean load at 2/3 cup, about 155 milliliters. That is useful for a household preparing several drip cups or a French press, while the body remains about 7.3 inches high, 4.18 inches long, and 3.4 inches wide. A built-in cord wrap under the base reduces loose cable on a shelf.

The lid interlock is another practical benefit: the motor should not operate unless the lid is secured. It does not remove the need to unplug the grinder before reaching near the blades or cleaning the bowl. The 150-watt rating describes electrical input, not a promise that every bean or spice will finish at the same speed.

Treat spices as a separate decision

BLACK+DECKER also markets the grinder for herbs and spices, but the manual narrows that promise to dry, brittle foods. It specifically warns against moist, extremely hard, or gummy ingredients, including whole ginger, chocolate, sesame seeds, oily spices, peanuts, and grains such as wheat, rice, barley, or dried corn.

Aroma transfer matters too. The manual notes that peppercorns, herbs, and spices can affect coffee ground afterward and suggests a separate grinder for those ingredients. If coffee flavor is the priority, dedicate this unit to beans. Using one bowl for both jobs saves space only if you accept careful wiping and the possibility of lingering aroma.

Cleaning is simple, but the bowl is not washable under the tap

The lid can be washed with warm water and dish soap, but the manual says no part belongs in a dishwasher. Wipe the grinding bowl, base, and other parts with a slightly damp cloth or sponge, dry them thoroughly, and never immerse the bowl, base, or plug or place them under running water. The fixed blade area therefore requires more careful wiping than a removable grinding cup. The manual also identifies a cord wrap under the base, so storage is straightforward after the bowl is dry. Do not mistake the metal surface for a removable insert: the manual permits wiping, not rinsing the assembled grinder.

Choose the CBG110S when you want a compact, one-button blade grinder for routine coffee batches and are comfortable controlling texture by time. Skip it when you need calibrated burr consistency, a removable washable cup, frequent coffee-and-spice switching, or processing of ingredients the manual excludes.
