Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen Bluetooth Speaker: Place It, Then Tune It
THE BUYING TAKE
Choose the second-generation Flex for portable placement and personal EQ; verify exact Speaker Link compatibility before adding another unit.
Best for
Listeners who move a compact speaker between locations and want app EQ plus a configurable shortcut.
The trade-off
Stereo needs a matching supported model; another speaker and a power adapter cost extra. Battery life varies, and the charging port must be dry.

A small Bluetooth speaker often moves more than the music source: from a kitchen counter to a bag, then onto a picnic table. The Bose SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen) makes changing placement part of its design, with orientation sensing and a compact body. The useful buying question is how those features fit the places you actually listen.
This article covers the Blue Dusk second-generation model, not the original Flex. Its appeal is a portable music setup you can place and adjust without committing to a large speaker. It still needs realistic expectations about sound, battery life and what a second speaker adds.
Place the speaker before adjusting the tone
Bose's PositionIQ technology senses the speaker's orientation and adjusts its audio accordingly. Standing it upright, laying it on its back or hanging it changes the arrangement the system responds to. That is useful when the available surface changes between rooms and trips.
Orientation sensing and personal tone adjustment solve different problems. PositionIQ responds to how the speaker sits; the adjustable EQ in the Bose app lets you change the tonal balance you prefer. One does not replace the other, and neither proves that every location sounds identical.
Start in the position you expect to use, then listen to familiar material before adjusting EQ. Treat any change as your preference rather than a universal improvement. This is a buying reason for someone who wants a compact speaker with tone controls, without relying on an unverified promise of room-filling bass.
Make the shortcut match your usual action
The programmable Shortcut button defaults to linking two compatible Bose Bluetooth speakers. Bose's app can change its assigned action, including access to a connected device's voice assistant or Spotify Tap. Check the setup requirements of the action you want before making it part of your daily routine.
That button can reduce the steps between picking up the speaker and using a supported feature. Its value depends on repetition: a shortcut you regularly need is more useful than a menu of possibilities you never configure. Basic music playback and that optional button assignment should be evaluated separately.
Multipoint also means something specific. The Flex can maintain Bluetooth connections to two paired source devices and switch to the active source. This can suit someone who alternates between a phone and another device, but it is not the same feature as linking two speakers, nor a promise to mix two sources at once.
Check the second speaker before buying a pair
A second speaker is an additional purchase, not part of this selected single-speaker listing. Bose's current compatibility guidance limits Speaker Link to supported Bose-app-compatible models. The Bose name alone does not establish that an older speaker will join this arrangement.
Two speakers of the same model can use Stereo Mode, separating left and right channels. Different compatible models use Party Mode, playing together without that same left-right arrangement. If stereo separation is the reason for adding another unit, check the exact generation and model rather than buying a vaguely similar Flex.
This distinction also helps control the budget. Decide whether you need one movable speaker, a matching stereo pair or compatible speakers sharing music. Buy the arrangement that solves your listening problem; a second unit is not automatically worthwhile merely because linking is available.
Leave time to dry and recharge
The Flex carries an IP67 dust-and-water resistance rating and weighs about 1.3 pounds. Its utility loop and compact shape are reasons to consider it for frequent carrying. Bose says it floats, but also says it is not designed for use while in water.
After direct exposure to salt or chlorinated water, follow Bose's fresh-water rinse and drying guidance. The USB-C charging port must be completely dry before charging. Water resistance therefore still leaves a care step between an outdoor outing and plugging it in at home.
Battery life is rated up to 12 hours, with actual results affected by loudness, content and temperature. Bose lists about four hours for a full charge in standby using a suitable 5V/1.5A supply. A USB-C-to-A cable is supplied; a power adapter is not.
Choose this Flex when portable placement, personal EQ and its specific connection options fit your routine. Choose another arrangement if you need guaranteed all-day loud playback, already own an incompatible speaker, or would rather avoid app configuration.
