The appeal of a mouse with twelve thumb buttons is obvious the first time you run out of easy keyboard shortcuts. The drawback appears just as quickly if your thumb has to hunt for the correct button. Corsair's gunmetal Scimitar Elite Wireless SE, part CH-9314014-WW, lets you slide the side grid to fit your reach. That adjustment is the place to start.

Fit the grid before programming it

The numbered side panel is part of a right-handed mouse. Corsair's guide shows how to loosen the Key Slider with the included tool, move the panel, and secure it again. The position of the grid changes. The shape of the mouse and the distance between its individual buttons stay fixed.

Rest your hand where it naturally lands during play and check which buttons you can reach without shifting the mouse. Try the corners as well as the center. If the grid works only when you twist your grip or rest your thumb heavily on a button, adjust it again before deciding which commands belong there.

Try the same reach test while moving the pointer. A placement that feels good with the mouse held still can feel different when you are steering around a crowded screen. The practical goal is a small group of buttons you can reach reliably during your usual movement.

Build a small map you can remember

Corsair specifies sixteen programmable controls in total, including the twelve on the side panel. Begin by assigning three or four actions you use frequently. For example, put an interface toggle in an easy center position, place related navigation actions beside it, and leave the corners alone until you can locate the central group by feel.

Set a convention that makes sense across the games you play. One area could be for movement or camera functions and another for interface shortcuts. If you change characters, keep equivalent jobs in similar positions where possible. A small handwritten diagram can help you spot assignments that look logical in software but are awkward during play.

Practice in a low-pressure area before depending on a new control in a live group session. Test one button at a time and check that it invokes the intended action. Review the game's rules before setting up anything beyond ordinary individual key bindings.

Decide how the mouse will connect

The SE supports Corsair's USB wireless receiver, Bluetooth and a wired USB connection. Decide which method you expect to use at your main desk and whether you need a second option when moving between computers. Check the relevant setup instructions and software requirements before depending on a particular feature in each mode.

If you use the receiver, pick a USB port you can leave available. If you expect to play while charging, route the cable so it does not drag against the desk edge or catch behind a monitor stand. These details affect daily use more directly than the highest advertised sensor setting.

Corsair provides iCUE for customization. Test your chosen setup on the computer where you will use it, especially if you need a configuration to behave the same way on a different machine. Record the few assignments you actually depend on so you can restore them if you change profiles.

Choose it for a job the grid can do

The Scimitar Elite Wireless SE makes sense when you can name several regular commands that benefit from direct thumb access. Its adjustable panel lets you tune reach, but it cannot make a dense grid useful if you only need one or two shortcuts or dislike the shape of a right-handed MMO mouse.

Judge it by how often you can find the intended command without looking down or changing your grip. If a few controls become reliable first, add another group later. If the extra rows remain difficult to distinguish, a simpler mouse may be a better fit for the work you actually do.
