Dunlop System 65 Guitar Maintenance Kit: Match Each Bottle to Its Job

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the 6500 for several compatible guitar-care jobs, with a separate bottle for each role and finish suitability checked first.

Best for
Guitar owners who need a broader care collection for compatible body, string and fingerboard maintenance and will follow both instrument and product directions.
The trade-off
Five bottles take space and may exceed a simple wipe-down need. Finish and fingerboard suitability require separate checks; the kit does not repair damaged parts or eliminate string replacement.

Five purpose-labelled products cover body, strings and a two-step fingerboard routine. The full kit earns its space when those jobs—and the instrument's material compatibility—actually match.

A guitar can need several kinds of cleaning at once: fingerprints on the body, residue around the fingerboard and grime on the strings. Buying one bottle called guitar cleaner does not explain which surface it belongs on. The Dunlop System 65 Guitar Maintenance Kit, model 6500, packages five purpose-labelled products so that those jobs can be considered separately.

That separation is the reason to consider the kit. It supplies body care, string care and a two-part fingerboard routine in one purchase. It does not establish that every bottle is appropriate for every guitar finish or fingerboard material. Check your instrument's care guidance before treating any surface.

Two body-care bottles have different roles

Formula 65 Polish & Cleaner is the surface-cleaning product. Bodygloss 65 Cream of Carnauba is the separate polishing and finish-protection product. Dunlop includes both in the 6500, rather than treating cleaning and applying a wax product as the same decision.

For a player who wants supplies organized around several maintenance jobs, that is useful. You can identify the cleaning bottle and decide separately whether the instrument calls for the additional finish treatment. The benefit is a defined set of options, not an instruction to apply all five products each time you wipe the guitar.

Before using either body product, establish what finish you have and what the guitar maker recommends. A glossy surface, matte finish, aged finish or specialty coating should not inherit suitability from a broad guitar-care label. Follow the bottle's current instructions as well as the instrument maker's guidance. If the finish remains uncertain, resolve that question first.

Fingerboard 01 and 02 form a separate pair

The kit includes Fingerboard 01 Cleaner & Prep and Fingerboard 02 Deep Conditioner Oil. Dunlop describes the first as the cleaning-and-preparation step and the second as the conditioning step. Their numbering makes the intended relationship clear without asking you to use a body-polish bottle on the fingerboard.

This is the second buying reason: someone who already needs fingerboard care gets two defined products alongside the body-care supplies. It can be a more coherent starting collection than assembling unrelated bottles whose roles are unclear.

The pair still needs a compatible fingerboard and a real reason to use it. Identify the wood, coating and manufacturer care requirements rather than assuming all dark-looking boards are the same. Do not infer that a finished maple board needs oil simply because the kit contains it. Conditioning is a material-specific choice, and the kit's presence does not determine a treatment schedule.

String care is its own bottle

Ultraglide 65 String Cleaner & Conditioner completes the five-bottle assortment. It gives string cleaning a dedicated product, which matters when the alternative would be reaching for whichever body cleaner happens to be nearby.

Dunlop presents it as string care, but buying the kit does not establish a measured extension of string life for your playing routine. Worn strings, corrosion and loss of the sound you want may still lead to replacement. Treat the bottle as a cleaning option within your maintenance routine, not a promise that string changes disappear.

Keep each product with its own label and application instructions. The kit also supplies cloths, so there is an applicator available when you begin; use clean cloth areas and avoid moving residue or treatment between different surfaces. This is a collection of care materials, not a repair system for broken hardware or damaged finishes.

Buy the full kit only if its range is useful

The 6500 makes sense when you need more than a quick body wipe and want clearly separated supplies for compatible body, fingerboard and string jobs. Its practical strength is that the bottle labels divide a broad task into smaller decisions.

A player who only needs one cleaner may be better served by that individual product. Five bottles take storage space, and several may sit unused if the instrument's materials or your existing routine do not call for them. Consumable care products also need replenishment eventually.

Choose this exact Maintenance Kit around the jobs you actually perform. Confirm surface compatibility, read the current directions and use the appropriate bottle for that job. A well-organized care collection helps most when it supports a deliberate routine rather than encouraging unnecessary treatment.
