Honeywell HT-900 or Vornado 660? Choose the Air Circulator by 2.6-Pound Portability or 100-Foot Reach

Both are corded, non-oscillating air circulators with manual aiming. Honeywell HT-900 favors a 2.6-pound body, shallow footprint, and wall mounting; Vornado 660 favors four speeds and a manufacturer-claimed 100-foot whole-room circulation path.

OUR BUYING TAKE

Choose HT-900 for desks, bedrooms, and tight placements where 2.6-pound portability, wall mounting, and simple focused airflow solve the real problem. Choose 660 when a larger room benefits from four speeds and Vornado's broader intended circulation path. Skip both for oscillation, remote control, cordless use, or actual refrigeration.

A compact fan and a whole-room circulator can sit in the same shopping results while solving different versions of the airflow problem. The Honeywell HT-900 and Vornado 660 are both corded, non-oscillating air circulators with manually aimed heads and physical speed controls. Either can direct air toward a person or help redistribute already heated or cooled air. Neither lowers room temperature like an air conditioner.

The useful choice is about scale. Honeywell lists the HT-900 at 2.6 pounds with an 8.94-by-6.3-inch footprint, three speeds, and wall-mount capability. Vornado positions the larger 660 for whole-room circulation with four speeds and a manufacturer claim of moving air up to 100 feet. One favors easy relocation and tight spaces; the other asks for more room in exchange for broader intended reach.

Start with the space the fan must occupy

The HT-900 makes the stronger case when a fan has to share a desk, dresser, nightstand, or narrow shelf. Honeywell lists it at 8.94 inches wide, 6.3 inches deep, and 10.9 inches high. At 2.6 pounds, it is also the easier of these two to carry from a home office to a bedroom. A wall-mount option can preserve the working surface altogether, although placement still needs access to an outlet and enough clearance for airflow.

Those dimensions create two distinct buying benefits: the fan is easier to place where floor space is scarce, and it is light enough to move as the occupied room changes. Its limitation is just as important. A small frame and three-speed control suit local or small-to-medium-room circulation better than a buyer expecting one machine to drive a broad airflow path through a large living area.

The Vornado 660 is the more purposeful room machine. Its deep-pitched blades, inlet guide cone, enclosed air duct, and AirTensity grille are part of Vornado's Vortex design for a focused column of air. That broader circulation job can justify a larger body on the floor, a low table, or a sturdy shelf. It is not the disciplined choice when the real need is a tiny fan beside a laptop.

Treat the reach numbers as job descriptions, not guarantees

Honeywell says the HT-900's airflow can be felt from up to 25 feet, based on internal test 20-032. Vornado says the 660 can move air up to 100 feet. These are manufacturer claims made under each brand's own conditions, not directly comparable independent tests and not promises that every room will feel uniform. Doors, furniture, fan angle, room shape, and the existing heating or cooling system all change the result.

The claims are still useful when read modestly. HT-900 is designed for focused airflow from a compact position, while the 660 is designed to set up a longer whole-room circulation path. The Vornado's four push-button speeds provide another practical benefit: a lower setting can maintain background movement, while the higher settings are available when a larger space needs a stronger stream. The chrome glide bar lets the body aim from horizontal toward vertical, helping send air across a room or upward for circulation.

Neither fan oscillates. That is not automatically a defect: a fixed, well-aimed air circulator can keep a deliberate path moving instead of sweeping a breeze past several positions. It is a real limitation, however, for buyers who specifically want automatic side-to-side coverage. Neither model also supplies a remote or app, so changing speed requires reaching the fan.

Controls and cleaning reward deliberate placement

The HT-900 uses a simple three-speed dial and a head that pivots through 90 degrees. Its 185 CFM manufacturer rating and manual aiming make it easy to understand: set the speed, point the fan, and leave it working. Honeywell's cleaning instructions allow the front grille to be removed after loosening the rear screws, giving access to dust on the grille and blades. The published warranty is one year.

Vornado gives the 660 four top-mounted push buttons and a detachable front grille. The extra speed is useful when the same fan will serve quiet background circulation at one time and stronger room movement at another. The removable grille makes blade cleaning more practical than working through narrow openings, and Vornado lists a five-year satisfaction guarantee for U.S. use. Coverage length is helpful support information, not proof that any individual unit will last five years without a problem.

Both designs reward intentional placement. Aim the airflow where it can travel, keep the inlet and outlet clear, and clean accumulated dust. If a fan will sit beyond arm's reach or needs to sweep between several occupied seats, the lack of a remote and oscillation should move both products down the list.

Buy for the room problem you repeat

Choose the Honeywell HT-900 when the recurring problem is limited surface space or moving one fan between nearby rooms. Its 2.6-pound body, shallow footprint, wall-mount option, three speeds, and 90-degree pivot deliver two clear benefits: flexible placement and simple focused airflow. It is especially sensible for desks, bedrooms, dorms, and small-to-medium rooms. It is not worth buying over the Vornado when the priority is the longest manufacturer-claimed reach or four-step control for broader circulation.

Choose the Vornado 660 when one deliberately placed fan needs to circulate air through a larger room. Its whole-room Vortex design, up-to-100-foot manufacturer claim, four speeds, and adjustable glide bar favor broader reach and more output choices. It is the better substitute for a living room or larger office where a personal fan would leave stagnant zones. It is more machine than necessary for a cramped desk, and it will disappoint anyone expecting oscillation, remote control, or actual refrigeration.

Skip both if the main requirement is cordless portability, automatic side-to-side movement, control from bed, or lowering the room's measured temperature without air conditioning. For everyone else, the decision is pleasantly concrete: buy the HT-900 for the space you must save, or the 660 for the circulation path you need to create.

THE CHOICES

Which one fits your job?

01Honeywell HT900 / HT-900 — Black

WHY CONSIDER IT
  • A 2.6-pound body and shallow 8.94-by-6.3-inch footprint make the fan easier to place on a crowded surface and move between nearby rooms.
  • Three speeds, 90-degree manual aiming, and wall mounting provide simple focused airflow without dedicating floor space to a larger fan.
THE LIMITS
  • It does not oscillate and includes no remote or app control.
  • It is corded rather than battery-powered.
  • The up-to-25-foot statement is a manufacturer claim based on an internal test, not a guarantee for every room.
  • Its compact frame and three speeds are less suited than the 660 to a broad whole-room circulation path.

02Vornado 660 / CR1-0121-06 — Black / Large

WHY CONSIDER IT
  • The whole-room Vortex design and up-to-100-foot manufacturer claim target a broader circulation path than a small personal fan.
  • Four speeds and the adjustable glide bar provide more output choices and flexible directional placement across or upward through a room.
THE LIMITS
  • It does not oscillate and includes no remote or app control.
  • It is corded and occupies more space than the compact HT-900.
  • The up-to-100-foot statement is a manufacturer claim, not an independent guarantee for every room.
  • It moves existing air but does not refrigerate or lower room temperature like an air conditioner.
