Klein Tools 11063W Automatic Wire Stripper: Choose a Hole, Squeeze Once

THE BUYING TAKE

Consider the 11063W for repeated, gauge-matched copper-wire preparation. Its coordinated stripping action and onboard cutter are useful when a basic manual tool feels cumbersome.

Best for
Users preparing several de-energized copper-wire ends in the specified ranges who prefer a marked, size-specific stripping hole.
The trade-off
You still choose the gauge and strip length. Check replacement blades and package contents; the handles are not insulated and the tool must stay away from live circuits.

Article summary

Sized stripping holes combine with a single-squeeze mechanism and a copper cutter. It suits repeated work with known wire gauges, not automatic gauge selection.

Preparing several lengths of wire involves more than cutting them to size: each end needs the right amount of insulation removed while leaving the conductor intact. The Klein Tools 11063W combines gripping and stripping in one squeeze, but you still choose a size-specific hole. That is the important distinction when comparing it with a self-adjusting stripper.

For a bench job involving repeated, known wire sizes, this layout puts the gauge choice in your hands while the mechanism handles the grip-and-pull movement. An onboard copper cutter adds a separate convenience: trimming the wire and preparing its end do not require two tools.

One squeeze still starts with the right hole

The stripping ranges are 8–20 AWG solid wire and 10–22 AWG stranded wire. They are separate ranges, not an interchangeable “8–22 AWG for everything” specification. Check the conductor construction and its gauge rather than choosing by the outside diameter of the insulation. A 10 AWG solid conductor and a 10 AWG stranded conductor need the appropriate markings, even though both fall within the listed ranges.

Once the wire is positioned, squeezing operates the gripping and stripping mechanism together. Your other hand can position the work rather than supply a separate pulling movement. This is useful when preparing several similar ends, where repeating the same setup matters more than switching between unfamiliar cables.

The mechanism does not choose a hole or inspect the result. Check an initial strip for damaged strands or a nicked conductor before repeating the operation. Someone who regularly changes wire sizes should weigh that selection step against the convenience of a self-adjusting jaw design.

Cut and strip with the same tool

The integrated cutter lets you trim copper wire before moving to the stripping holes. Klein's current product page specifies cutting up to 8 AWG solid wire; the tool itself is marked for copper cutting only. This is not permission to cut steel wire, screws or other hard materials, nor to treat every stripping specification as a separate cutting rating.

A stripping stroke can remove up to one inch of insulation. Use the strip length required by the connector or device, not the tool's maximum simply because it is available. The spring reopens the handles after the stroke, readying the tool for another end without manually spreading the grips.

For occasional work, a manual stripper and cutter already in the toolbox may accomplish the same preparation. The reason to buy this tool is to combine those operations with a coordinated stripping motion, not to obtain an unverified speed or precision advantage.

Check the blades and optional stop

Klein lists the 11073 replacement stripping blades among the 11063W's parts. That is worth checking when comparing long-term ownership costs: wear at a replaceable stripping edge need not mean discarding the whole body. Confirm compatibility and the replacement's wire range; do not assume that a similar-looking blade expands the original tool's capabilities.

The manufacturer also lists the 11081 adjustable wire stop for the 11063W. It is a separately identified component, so check the seller's package contents rather than assuming a length stop is included. For repeated strip lengths, decide whether that additional guide belongs in your setup before comparing package prices.

The cast-alloy chassis has an Ecoat finish for corrosion resistance. Those construction details do not eliminate maintenance or make the blue-and-black grips electrically insulated. Keep the edges and mechanism in suitable condition, following the tool and replacement-part instructions.

Best suited to repeated preparation, not live work

The clearest fit is someone preparing multiple copper-wire ends within the stated ranges who prefers to select a marked stripping hole. Occasional users may not need another tool, while work outside those ranges calls for a different specification. Check that the work area has room for the head and the opening handles rather than assuming a bench-friendly mechanism will suit a cramped location.

Klein requires approved eye protection and prohibits use on or near live electrical circuits. The handles provide grip, not shock protection. The buying decision is about a more convenient preparation sequence on suitable, de-energized work—not permission to skip electrical safety or terminal instructions.
