Kreg KMA3232 Shelf Pin Jig: Keep 5mm Cabinet Holes Even Through a Long Run

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the Kreg KMA3232 when a cabinet needs several straight, repeatable rows for 5 mm shelf pins and you want spacing, depth control and row extension in one kit. Skip it for one rough hole, non-32 mm hardware, or work that cannot be securely clamped and referenced.

Best for
Cabinet builders and furniture upgraders drilling repeatable 5 mm shelf-pin rows in face-frame or frameless cases, especially when a six-hole setup must continue accurately through a longer cabinet.
The trade-off
The included package is centered on 5 mm shelf pins even though the jig also accepts Kreg's separate 1/4-inch bit. The same reference end and secure clamping remain essential. Its hardware windows are references for the 32 mm system, not universal hinge or drawer-slide templates.

Article summary

The Kreg KMA3232 uses six hardened-steel guides on 32 mm centers, a 5 mm brad-point bit, a stop collar, a removable fence and an indexing pin to extend repeatable shelf-pin rows. It also references common 32 mm frameless-cabinet hardware, but accurate results still depend on a fixed reference edge, secure clamping and hardware-specific instructions.

Adjustable shelves only feel flexible when every pin lands at the same height. A row that wanders by even one setup change can leave a shelf rocking, while holes drilled too deep make a finished cabinet look improvised. The Kreg KMA3232 Shelf Pin Jig 5 mm gives a hand drill a fixed six-hole pattern, a depth stop, and a repeatable way to extend the row. It is a layout tool for 5 mm shelf pins and 32 mm cabinet work—not a substitute for clamping, a sharp bit, or checking the hardware you plan to install.

Six steel guides keep each 32 mm step in the same pattern

The clearest buying reason is repeatability. Kreg spaces the jig's six hardened-steel drill guides at 1 1/4 inches (32 mm), so the pattern comes from the jig instead of a tape-measure mark beside every hole. The included 5 mm brad-point bit runs through those guides, while a stop collar contacts the guide to limit drilling depth.

That combination addresses spacing drift and inconsistent depth. It is useful when matching rows must line up on opposite cabinet sides. The guide does not automatically make those rows level, however. Kreg tells users to keep the same reference end for left-to-right and front-to-back alignment. A careless flip can still move the pattern.

The fence and indexing pin carry one setup into a longer row

For frameless cabinets, the removable fence registers the jig from the cabinet edge. Kreg's manual places the guide holes 1.45 inches (37 mm) from the jig sides. For face-frame work or an assembled case, the fence can be removed and the jig referenced inside.

After the first six holes, the extension aligns with the last completed hole. Insert the indexing pin, clamp again, and drill the next group without measuring a fresh starting point. Two jigs can also connect without tools for longer runs.

The extension itself has no steel drill guide and is not a drilling location. Its job is indexing. The double-ended pin supports both 1/4-inch and 5 mm shelf-pin holes, but this KMA3232 package includes the 5 mm bit and four 5 mm shelf pins. Buying the correct pins still matters; 1/4 inch and 5 mm are not interchangeable shelf-pin sizes.

A stop collar controls depth, but the jig still must be clamped

Kreg's setup uses the storage recess on the back of the jig to position the stop collar on the bit before tightening its set screw with the included hex wrench. During drilling, the bit should be brought up to speed inside the guide before it contacts the wood, then withdrawn while still rotating. The collar stops deeper travel when it reaches the guide.

The manual says the workpiece must be clamped securely and warns against holding it by hand; it also lists a 300-pound clamping limit. If two jigs are connected, both should be clamped. Dust, a dull bit, reverse rotation, or starting against the wood can still spoil a hole. The jig cannot compensate for unstable work or poor drilling technique.

Its 32 mm references help with hardware, within clear limits

Kreg also provides alignment windows for locating concealed-hinge plates and the first mounting hole for many drawer slides in frameless cabinets. This can make the jig more useful than a shelf-only template when a project follows the same 32 mm system.

Treat that feature as a reference, not universal hardware compatibility. Kreg instructs users to check the hinge or slide manufacturer's mounting directions before drilling. With standard wood screws, the bit may only mark the surface; with 5 mm system screws, it can drill the hole. The tool does not locate hinge cup holes, level an entire slide, or guarantee that every hardware brand shares the same pattern.

Choose the KMA3232 if you need multiple straight, repeatable 5 mm shelf-pin rows and want the fence, indexing pin, stop collar, and onboard storage in one kit. Skip it for a single rough shelf, for hardware outside the 32 mm system, or if you expect the jig to replace clamps and careful referencing. Its value is not speed alone; it is preserving the same spacing and depth as the row moves through a cabinet.
