A travel mouse should be easy to bring back into use when the desk changes. Logitech MX Anywhere 3S combines a compact body with wireless pairing and a wheel that can handle both short lists and long documents. The useful setup is the one you can repeat at home, at work and beside a laptop.

Pair the computers before the trip

The mouse uses Bluetooth, with an Easy-Switch button on the underside. Logitech documents up to three paired computers. Assign a channel to each machine you actually use, then test switching while you can still see both screens.

Holding the channel button for three seconds starts pairing mode; a short press changes channels after pairing. That distinction matters when you only want to return to a known computer. Practice it before a meeting.

Keep the first setup straightforward. Check pointer movement, clicking and scrolling before adding software assignments. If a work computer restricts Bluetooth or software installation, resolve that requirement before treating the mouse as the only pointing device in your bag.

Logitech lists compatibility with a Logi Bolt receiver, but the receiver is not included in this package. A charging cable in the box is not a wireless receiver. If you need receiver-based connectivity, account for the correct receiver separately.

Make scrolling predictable on a small screen

MagSpeed provides stepped and free-spinning scrolling, with SmartShift changing modes as the wheel turns faster. The top mode button also lets you change modes manually. Try a short menu and a long document before deciding which behavior you prefer.

On a laptop, a large movement through a page can make it easy to lose your place. Use stepped scrolling for a task that needs small adjustments, then compare the free-spinning mode when moving through a longer file. The benefit is choosing the behavior, not always using the fastest option.

Options+ can adjust SmartShift behavior. Change one setting and repeat the same document task so that the result is understandable. If you later return to a different computer, check its configuration rather than assuming every software setting followed the mouse automatically.

Set pointer speed for the screen you use

The advertised sensor range reaches 8,000 DPI, while Logitech's setup guide lists a 1,000 DPI default. A higher number is not a requirement for ordinary work. Begin with a speed that lets you select small controls without repeated corrections.

If you switch between a laptop display and a larger monitor, revisit the setting using the same simple task. Select a word, move a window and stop the pointer on a small button. Those actions tell you more about a useful setting than the maximum specification alone.

The mouse also has side buttons that can receive application-specific assignments through Options+. Start with a command you use often and verify its behavior in the target program. Keep a note of any customized assignments, especially if your work and personal computers use different applications.

Compact size is helpful for packing, but hand fit remains individual. Consider whether the shape allows a relaxed grip during the tasks you perform most. Small dimensions alone do not establish that a mouse is comfortable for every user.

Pack the cable and check the battery

The package includes a USB-C charging cable. Connect it to the mouse and a suitable USB power source when charging is needed. Check the battery indicator before leaving, rather than relying on a maximum runtime figure as a prediction of your own remaining use.

The official product page describes quiet clicks, but that does not mean the entire device is silent. Scrolling, desk contact and the surrounding room still contribute to what you and nearby people hear. Avoid expecting a noise-free workspace from one mouse change.

Before packing, return to your preferred channel and make sure you remember which computer it represents. A repeatable check of pairing, battery and the cable is easier than rebuilding the setup at each destination.
