Semi-automatic espresso usually comes with a learning curve: choose a grind size, dose the basket, tamp evenly, watch the shot, then steam milk without creating a pitcher full of large bubbles. The Ninja Luxe Café Premier ES601 tries to remove the guesswork without turning the entire process into a one-button superautomatic machine.

Its biggest trick is not simply combining espresso, drip coffee, and rapid cold brew. It connects a 25-setting burr grinder, a built-in scale, Barista Assist guidance, an assisted tamper, and hands-free milk frothing into one workflow. That makes the ES601 most interesting for people who want café-style drinks but do not want to learn every espresso variable from scratch.

Barista Assist makes the grinder less intimidating

The built-in conical burr grinder has 25 grind settings, but you are not left to guess which number to use. Ninja's Barista Assist system recommends a grind size and uses the built-in scale for weight-based dosing based on the drink you select.

That matters because espresso reacts strongly to grind size and dose. Too coarse and water can run through too quickly; too fine and the shot can slow down or stall. The ES601 still gives you a real portafilter, but it adds guidance around the parts that usually frustrate beginners.

Ninja also says the system monitors brewing and adjusts temperature and pressure parameters as part of its guided process. That makes this more of a coached semi-automatic machine than a traditional manual setup.

It replaces three separate coffee routines

The ES601 handles espresso, drip coffee, and rapid cold brew in the same machine. Espresso can be brewed as a double or quad shot. Drip coffee includes Classic, Rich, and Over-Ice styles, while the cold side includes cold-pressed espresso and cold brew.

For drip and cold brew, sizes range from 6 to 18 ounces. That versatility matters if one person in the house wants a latte while someone else prefers a large mug of drip coffee.

The tradeoff is complexity. A machine that combines a grinder, espresso brewer, drip system, cold-brew modes, scale, and frother has more components to clean and more parts that can eventually need service than a simple brewer.

Hands-free frothing removes another skill step

The Dual Froth System steams and whisks milk at the same time. Four presets cover Steamed Milk, Thin Froth, Thick Froth, and Cold Foam, and Ninja supports both dairy and nondairy milk.

For a beginner, this may be one of the most useful features. Manual steam wands require practice to position the pitcher and introduce the right amount of air. With the ES601, you choose the froth style and let the system handle the motion.

You still need to wipe and maintain the steam system, clean the milk jug, empty the portafilter, and follow the machine's cleaning and descaling routine. Hands-free frothing reduces technique; it does not eliminate maintenance.

It is guided, not fully automatic

This distinction matters before spending roughly $500 to $600. The ES601 still uses a portafilter. You move it between grinding and brewing, use the included assisted tamper, and knock out the puck afterward.

That is good if you want some of the ritual of espresso without starting with a separate grinder, scale, tamper, and milk-frothing technique. It is less ideal if your goal is to press one button and have the machine grind, tamp, brew, and clean up with almost no involvement.

The machine also draws 1,650 watts and takes meaningful counter space once you leave room for the bean hopper, water tank, milk jug, and access around the grinder.

The newer ES701 changes the value equation

Ninja now sells the Luxe Café Pro ES701 above the ES601. The Pro adds an independent hot-water system, five froth presets instead of four, and an integrated lever tamper. The ES601 remains the simpler 3-in-1 model with an assisted tamper.

That means price matters. If the ES601 is meaningfully cheaper, its grinder, scale, Barista Assist, and hands-free frothing still make a strong all-in-one package. If the price gap to the ES701 is small, buyers who want integrated tamping or hot water should compare both before choosing.

Buy the ES601 for guided espresso plus drip and cold brew in one machine. Skip it if you only drink black drip coffee, want a fully automatic experience, or already own a grinder and espresso setup you like.
