Nite Ize DoohicKey KMT-11-R3 Key Tool: Clip Five Quick Fixes to Your Keys

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the original Nite Ize DoohicKey KMT-11-R3 when a 0.4-ounce key-ring backup for package tape, crown caps, wide slotted screws and an occasional exposed nut is more useful than added bulk; choose dedicated tools when reach, torque, cutting control or measurement length matters.

Best for
People who already carry keys and want a nearly weightless stainless backup for small, accessible adjustments and opening jobs.
The trade-off
The 2.6-inch body provides little leverage, the flathead is too broad for many recessed screws, the wrench fits only three inch sizes, the ruler is short, and exposed stainless steel can scratch nearby items.

Article summary

The stainless Nite Ize DoohicKey KMT-11-R3 clips a flathead driver, box cutter, bottle opener, three-size wrench and short ruler to a key ring at 0.4 ounce; limited reach, torque and measuring length keep it in the backup-tool role.

The value of a tiny multitool is not how many labels fit on the packaging. It is whether the tool you actually need is still with you when a camera plate loosens, a delivery box needs opening, or a capped bottle appears. The stainless-steel Nite Ize DoohicKey KMT-11-R3 is built around that simple advantage: it clips to a key ring or bag loop and puts a flathead screwdriver, box cutter, bottle opener, three-size wrench opening, and short ruler in one 0.4-ounce piece.

Those dimensions also define its limits. At 2.6 by 0.7 by 0.1 inches, the screwdriver has little reach, the wrench offers limited leverage, and the ruler covers only a short span. It is a pocket backup, not a miniature toolbox.

The clip is useful before you reach for any tool

The open end works as a small carabiner-style attachment, letting the DoohicKey join an existing key ring, zipper pull, or bag loop without a separate sheath. Nite Ize makes the tool in stainless steel, so there are no folding pivots or removable bits to manage. Clip it where you can reach it and the entire piece is ready.

Pack Hacker found that attachment point more useful day to day than several of the built-in tools. A more capable multitool left in a drawer cannot solve an unexpected loose screw. At 0.4 ounce, the DoohicKey adds little weight, although its flat metal edges can still mark keys, phones, or other pocket contents.

The gate is for carrying keys and the tool itself. It is not load-rated climbing hardware, and the product should not be treated as a safety carabiner.

The flathead and box cutter suit quick access, not full repairs

One broad end forms both the flathead screwdriver and a box-cutting edge. The screwdriver can tighten a camera quick-release plate or another wide, accessible slot without making you hunt for a coin. Pack Hacker reported that camera-plate screws were its most useful job during a month of testing, while also noting that the tip was too large for many ordinary recessed screws.

The flat plate cannot reach deeply recessed fasteners or match a handled driver's torque. Its box cutter is a package-opening edge, not a replaceable razor: useful for packing tape, not precise cutting or heavy material.

The nearby bottle opener is the least ambiguous function: seat it under a crown cap and lever upward. Simple, accessible jobs are the point.

The wrench and ruler fit narrow, low-torque jobs

The shaped opening is marked for 1/4-, 5/16-, and 3/8-inch hex hardware. Those sizes can help with an exposed nut when you only need a small adjustment. Because the handle is 2.6 inches long and thin, leverage and hand comfort are limited. Pack Hacker found the wrench openings uncomfortable when trying to tighten hardware firmly, so this feature belongs in the “good enough to stabilize something” category.

Etched inch markings run along one face and metric markings along the other. The ruler can check a small screw or cable gap, but it is not long enough for layout work.

Pack Hacker saw minor dings after a month but no serious structural issue. Expect cosmetic wear from exposed keychain carry.

Buy it as a backup that stays with you, not a toolbox replacement

The DoohicKey makes sense for someone who already carries keys and wants a nearly weightless answer to package tape, crown caps, wide slotted screws, and an occasional exposed nut. The clip-and-carry design and the screwdriver/package-opening end are two distinct reasons it can earn a place on a daily key ring.

Skip it if you need Phillips drivers, pliers, a real blade, strong leverage, or a long measuring edge. KMT-11-R3 is the original five-function stainless model, not the Plus version with an extra Phillips tip, scoring point, and nail-puller features.

Nite Ize calls the original airport friendly, while Pack Hacker warns that screening can vary. Check current rules and accept the inspecting officer's final decision.

For the right buyer, the decision is modest and practical. A 0.4-ounce tool that remains clipped to the keys can solve small problems before they become delays. Its success comes from being present, not from competing with the full-size tools it deliberately leaves behind.
