Roku Streaming Stick Plus 3830R 4K Streaming Device: HDR10+ & TV Power

THE BUYING TAKE

A strong fit for 4K TV owners who want Roku, HDR10+, TV-powered installation and Bluetooth headphone listening in a tiny stick without paying for the Dolby Vision model.

Best for
4K TVs, secondary rooms and travel setups where simple Roku navigation, minimal cable clutter and one remote for basic TV controls matter.
The trade-off
It supports HDR10/HDR10+/HLG but not Dolby Vision, uses dual-band Wi-Fi rather than a wired network connection, and depends on a compatible TV for 4K HDR playback.

The Roku Streaming Stick Plus 3830R is built for a very specific upgrade: add a current 4K Roku experience to a TV without putting another box, power brick, and extra cable pile around the screen. This article covers Amazon US child ASIN B0DXY833HV, the 4K Roku Streaming Stick Plus model 3830R, not the older Roku Express 4K+ and not the separate Dolby Vision-capable Streaming Stick 4K.

At fact-check time, Amazon’s exact B0DXY833HV page showed 4.6 stars from 10,323 ratings and 10K+ bought in the past month. Amazon’s product details identify model 3830R and parent ASIN B0GXLPJF6K. Roku’s current U.S. store listed the Streaming Stick Plus at $49.99, and Roku explicitly describes it as the updated 2025 replacement for the no-longer-available Express 4K+.

4K HDR10+ without a separate power brick

Roku rates the Streaming Stick Plus for up to 3840 × 2160 playback at 60 fps on compatible 4K TVs, with HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support. A compatible HDMI input with HDCP 2.2 is required for 4K HDR use, so the stick cannot create 4K or HDR capability on a TV that does not already support those formats.

The design advantage is physical simplicity. The player has built-in HDMI and a USB-C power input, and Roku says it can be powered directly from the TV instead of requiring a separate wall power brick. Roku lists typical power consumption at about 2.5W while streaming 4K UHD video. For a wall-mounted TV or a secondary screen where cable clutter matters, that is a meaningful difference from a set-top box.

The Voice Remote handles the controls you use most

The included Roku Voice Remote can control TV power, volume and mute on most compatible TVs, so normal watching does not require switching back and forth between a basic TV remote and the Roku remote. Voice search also lets you search and control playback without typing titles one letter at a time.

The 3830 model also supports Roku’s Bluetooth Headphone Mode. Roku’s support documentation specifically lists Streaming Stick Plus 3830 among devices that can pair directly with Bluetooth headphones, provided the headphones support Bluetooth 4.2 or later. That gives the stick a practical late-night listening option without routing audio through the TV speakers.

The box includes the player, Voice Remote, two pre-installed AAA batteries and a USB-C-to-USB-A power cable. There is no separate wall adapter in Roku’s published box contents.

Compact size is useful, but this is not the Dolby Vision model

Roku lists the player at 3.7 × 0.80 × 0.45 inches and 0.90 ounces, or about 26 grams. It plugs directly into HDMI and is small enough to stay behind the TV. The portability also makes it a reasonable option for a second home, hotel room or another TV where you prefer to use your own Roku account instead of learning a different built-in smart-TV interface.

Networking is dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Roku also lists support for Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa and Roku Smart Home.

The main feature boundary is HDR format support. This Streaming Stick Plus supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, but Roku’s current lineup reserves Dolby Vision for the higher Streaming Stick 4K. If Dolby Vision is a priority for your TV and content library, this is the wrong Roku tier even though both devices stream in 4K.

Who should buy the Roku Streaming Stick Plus 3830R?

The 3830R is a strong fit for someone with a 4K TV who wants a simple Roku interface, HDR10+ support, a voice remote and a cleaner installation without a separate power brick. It also makes sense for secondary TVs and travel because the stick is tiny and the remote handles basic TV controls.

Skip it if Dolby Vision is a requirement or if your TV already gives you a fast, well-supported streaming interface you are happy with. The value here is not raw feature count. It is a compact 4K Roku player that hides behind the TV, runs from TV power, supports direct Bluetooth headphone listening and keeps everyday controls on one remote.
