Sennheiser HD 560S: Choose the Room Before the Headphones
THE BUYING TAKE
Choose the room, source pairing and exact supplied cable before buying. Compare another category when isolation or wireless use matters most.
Best for
People planning wired listening in a setting suited to open headphones, with a verified source and seller-confirmed cable package.
The trade-off
Open design is not an isolation promise. Current and older descriptions differ on cable length, native plug and adapter direction; confirm the actual box.

Black HD 560S wired open-back / retailer-described 3m cable package
A headphone purchase can begin with music and still depend on the room. A quiet place for an uninterrupted album is a different setting from a shared desk, a busy household or a recording position beside a sensitive microphone. The Sennheiser HD 560S makes most sense when its open-back design suits where you intend to listen.
This assessment covers the black HD 560S, article number 509144. It is a wired, open dynamic headphone, not a wireless travel model. Decide what you need the headphones to do before treating the word audiophile as a substitute for checking the environment, the connection and the actual package.
Choose the listening setting first
Sennheiser identifies the open earcups and angled transducer alignment as central parts of the design. Those are relevant choices for a home listening arrangement. They are not a promise of isolation or a guarantee that this is the right headphone for every shared space.
Consider the people and activities around your normal seat. If you need to monitor a microphone, also check the real playback level and recording arrangement rather than assuming any over-ear headphone will behave the same way. This article does not include an independent leakage or isolation measurement.
A useful trial is a normal listening session in the intended location, with the music and interruptions you ordinarily encounter. That tells you whether the setting fits your priorities. A specification sheet cannot decide how much awareness of the room you want or what others nearby will accept.

Verify the cable that comes with the offer
The HD 560S uses a detachable cable, but the published package descriptions are not uniform. The current US manufacturer page lists a 1.8-meter cable with a 3.5 mm plug and a screw-on 6.3 mm adapter.
The older 2020 manufacturer sheet and the retailer description instead list a three-meter cable with a 6.3 mm plug and a 3.5 mm adapter. Even the manufacturer's public catalog description retains that older arrangement. These differences are a reason to ask about the actual box, not to assume the longest cable or a particular adapter direction will be supplied.
Check the cable length, native plug and adapter with the selected seller if they determine whether the headphones fit your desk. Plan the route from the source to the seat and where the headphones will rest. Do not buy a replacement cable until its exact compatibility is confirmed.
Pair the headphone with the actual output
Sennheiser specifies a 120-ohm transducer. That number helps identify the design, but it does not independently establish the output level available from every computer, phone adapter or audio interface. Check the source's headphone-output guidance and assess the intended pairing before adding equipment.
A connector adapter provides a physical fit; it does not provide amplification. If the source has no suitable analog headphone output, identify the required conversion arrangement separately. The headphone's wired connection does not make an unspecified USB adapter part of the package.
Start at a low playback level and use familiar material when evaluating the combination. Avoid interpreting a louder setting as proof of a more accurate result. This assessment does not claim original measurements of sensitivity, distortion or amplifier performance.
Evaluate fit and comparisons deliberately
The manufacturer documents an around-ear design and velour pads. These details are useful starting points, but individual fit still needs attention. Check how the pads sit with glasses and whether the headband adjustment suits a complete ordinary session.
For comparing recordings or components, keep the playback setup consistent and make one change at a time. Sennheiser positions the HD 560S for analytical listening; that positioning does not turn every personal impression into a measured result or establish that everyone will prefer its presentation.
Choose the HD 560S when the open design suits your room, the source pairing is verified and the seller confirms the cable arrangement you need. Compare another type when isolation or wireless mobility is the priority. This is a specification-based buying assessment, not an original listening, comfort or acoustic test.
