Shark S8001 Steam Mop: Rotating Scrub Pads

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose it if sealed hard floors dominate your home and powered rotating pads would save repeated manual scrubbing on sticky, tracked-in messes.

Best for
Homes with mostly sealed hardwood, tile, stone, laminate, marble, or vinyl floors where stuck-on kitchen and entryway grime is a recurring problem.
The trade-off
It is corded, does not vacuum loose debris, is unsuitable for carpet or steam-sensitive flooring, and costs much more than a basic steam mop.

Most steam mops loosen grime, but you still do the scrubbing by pushing the head back and forth. The Shark Steam & Scrub S8001 changes that part of the job with two motor-driven pads that rotate while steam hits the floor. On the current Grey S8001 listing, Shark says the pads deliver more than 150 scrubs per minute, and the machine is built for sealed hard floors such as hardwood, tile, marble, stone, laminate, and vinyl.

That makes the S8001 more interesting than a basic steam mop for kitchens, entryways, and other rooms where dried splashes or tracked-in residue need more than a quick pass. It is still a dedicated floor tool, though, not a vacuum or a carpet cleaner.

Rotating pads take over the scrubbing motion

The strongest reason to buy this model is the automatic scrubbing head. Two Dirt Grip pads spin against the floor while steam softens stuck-on residue, so you are guiding the mop instead of manually sawing it back and forth over the same spot.

Shark says the steam-and-pad combination can remove stuck-on stains up to twice as well as its S1000 traditional steam mop in a controlled mustard test. That comparison is useful as a design claim, not a promise that every stain in a real home disappears in one pass.

The included pads are machine washable, and four come in the box. That matters because reusable pads only save hassle if you can rotate a clean pair into use while another pair is being washed.

Three steam modes make daily cleaning less all-or-nothing

Light, Normal, and Deep modes let you change steam output for different jobs. Light makes more sense for a quick refresh, while Deep is intended for messes that need more heat and moisture.

The S8001 also uses a removable water tank. Shark's S8001 manual lists a 350 ml, or about 11.8-ounce, capacity and a 1,120-watt power rating. Because the mop is corded, you do not have to manage battery runtime, but you do have to work around a power cord from room to room.

Steam is not appropriate for every floor. This model is designed for sealed hard surfaces, so unsealed wood, wax-sensitive finishes, and any flooring whose manufacturer warns against steam should be treated as off-limits unless the flooring maker says otherwise.

LED headlights help reveal the dirt you miss from standing height

The front LED lights are a small feature, but they fit the way floor cleaning actually works. Fine debris and dried spots can disappear into reflections on light floors or under cabinet edges. The headlights make those areas easier to see before you move on.

They do not replace pre-cleaning. The S8001 does not vacuum up cereal, grit, pet litter, or larger debris, so loose dirt should still be swept or vacuumed first. Think of this as a powered steam-scrubbing step, not an all-in-one floor-care machine.

Sanitizing claims depend on using the mop exactly as directed

Shark markets the Steam & Scrub as a sanitizing steam mop, but the fine print matters. Its bacteria-removal claim comes from controlled testing and requires following the owner guide's sanitizing instructions.

That is a good reason not to treat "steam" as a shortcut for every cleaning job. Contact time, mode, surface compatibility, and normal maintenance still matter. The pads also need to be cleaned, and the tank should be managed according to the manual instead of leaving water sitting in the machine indefinitely.

Buy it for mostly hard-floor homes, not mixed-surface cleaning

Choose the S8001 if most of your cleaning happens on sealed hard floors and you want steam plus powered scrubbing in one pass. The rotating pads, three steam modes, headlights, washable pads, and removable tank make it especially appealing for kitchens, mudrooms, and homes where sticky residue is a recurring problem.

Skip it if your home is mostly carpet, you need a machine that vacuums and mops in the same pass, or you rarely deal with stuck-on floor messes. At around the mid-$100 range in recent Amazon tracking, the S8001 costs much more than a basic steam mop. Its value comes from doing the scrubbing motion for you often enough to justify that premium.
