Silky GOMBOY 240 Folding Saw: One Pull-Cut Blade for Yard, Trail and Shop

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the GOMBOY 240 when versatility, controlled pull cuts and compact protected storage matter more than maximum speed on large green wood.

Best for
Gardeners, campers and practical woodworkers who want one packable hand saw for both fresh branches and dry stock, with enough blade length for controlled medium-size cuts.
The trade-off
At 0.63 lb and 10.63 inches folded it is not ultralight; the straight blade is less aggressive than a curved coarse-tooth model on large green limbs, and its induction-hardened teeth must be replaced rather than hand-sharpened.

A storm-dropped limb across a trail or a dead branch crowding a garden bed calls for more reach than a pocket knife, but not necessarily a bow saw. The straight-blade Silky GOMBOY 240 folds a 9.45-inch blade into a 10.63-inch tool, giving pruning, camp and carpentry work a useful middle size without leaving exposed teeth in a pack.

This is the medium-tooth 121-24 model. It is not the curved GOMBOY or a different blade length, and that distinction matters because Silky tunes tooth pattern and geometry for different work.

A 240 mm blade balances reach with packable storage

The blade measures 240 mm and the complete saw weighs about 285 g, or 0.63 lb. That is substantial enough for deliberate control, yet compact enough for a tool bag or day pack once folded. A clear hinged case is included, adding protection in storage even though it occupies more room than the folded saw alone.

Silky lists the GOMBOY 240 for pruning, trimming and carpentry. Its straight profile favors controlled, accurate cuts and access between nearby branches. It is still a hand saw: thick trunks, unstable overhead limbs and jobs that require a ladder deserve a larger tool or professional help.

Medium teeth cover both green and dry wood

The blade uses 10 teeth per 30 mm, equivalent to about 8.5 teeth per inch. Silky describes this medium pattern as an all-round choice for both fresh and dead wood. That makes the 121-24 more versatile than an extra-large-tooth pruning saw optimized for fast green-wood removal or an extra-fine blade aimed at delicate dry-wood joinery.

The chrome-plated, taper-ground blade uses a triple-edge, non-set tooth design. The tooth tips are induction hardened, while the blade remains flexible. In practical buying terms, the combination is meant to reduce cutting effort and leave a narrow, controlled kerf. The tradeoff is maintenance: Silky says impulse-hardened teeth cannot be resharpened with a hand file, so a worn or damaged blade is replaced rather than touched up in the workshop.

Two lock positions make the straight blade more adaptable

The blade locks open in two positions. The standard position suits general sawing; the second changes the handle angle so the full blade can work close to a flat surface while leaving more knuckle clearance. That is useful when trimming a peg, working near a trunk or approaching stock from an awkward bench angle.

The rubber-clad steel handle gives a cushioned, non-slip hold, including with gloves. Before every cut, confirm that the lock is fully engaged and that the blade is straight, tight and undamaged. Folding protects the teeth during transport, but it also creates a pivot area that must be kept clear of fingers.

The pull stroke rewards technique, not force

Silky saws cut on the pull stroke. Pulling places the thin blade under tension; forcing it forward can make it buckle. Begin with light strokes until the kerf is established, then let the teeth work. If a branch closes around the blade, remove the load from the cut instead of twisting the handle or pushing harder.

Protective eyewear and work gloves are not optional extras around these teeth. Keep the free hand outside the cutting path, close the saw when it is not in use and store it dry in its case. Silky recommends cleaning the blade with solvent while keeping solvent away from the handle.

Choose the GOMBOY 240 when one folding saw needs to move between yard pruning, trail work and controlled cuts in dry stock. Choose a longer, curved or coarser Silky model when speed in large green limbs matters more than precision, and choose powered equipment or professional help when the wood is beyond safe hand-saw work.
