TAJIMA CNV-100SP Caulk Gun: Flow Stops and Handle Rotation

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the standard CNV-100SP when automatic plunger retraction and a rotating handle address your cartridge work. Confirm that its 12:1 specification and 300 ml cartridge format suit your material before buying.

Best for
Cartridge users whose work involves repeated flow stops and changing handle orientation around joints.
The trade-off
Manual squeezing is still required. The gun weighs 710 g before adding a cartridge; handle rotation does not create extra clearance. This standard model is not the Super 18 or Super 26, and retraction is not a universal zero-drip guarantee.

Article summary

The standard 12:1 Convoy Super combines automatic plunger retraction with a rotating handle. Consider it for cartridge work where stopping flow and changing grip position matter, after checking the sealant's dispensing requirements.

At the end of a bead, your next move may be turning a corner, changing position or setting the loaded gun down. Those transitions deserve attention when choosing a caulk gun. The TAJIMA CNV-100SP Convoy Super pairs a flow-stop mechanism with a rotating handle, making it worth considering when your current gun's stopping behavior or grip position is the part you want to change.

This is the standard 12:1 CNV-100SP for 10-fluid-ounce or 300-milliliter cartridges. The similar-looking Super 18 and Super 26 are separate models. Start with the cartridge and material you plan to dispense, then judge whether this model's two conveniences address your work.

Understand what the plunger does after a push

TAJIMA describes its Auto Flow Stop mechanism as retracting the plunger a few millimeters after each push. The intended benefit is to relieve forward pressure so the flow stops more readily. For work with repeated starts and stops, that is a specific reason to consider the gun: pressure relief is built into its dispensing action.

The mechanism should not be read as a promise that every sealant will stop perfectly at the nozzle. It changes the plunger's position; it does not measure your bead or finish its end. Keep your expectations tied to that documented action, particularly if a listing uses a broader word such as “dripless.”

Separate stopping from starting again. An automatic return after each push is part of the mechanism you will use throughout a job, not only when you put the gun down. If you already like how your present gun releases pressure, handle orientation or material compatibility should carry more weight in a replacement decision.

Turn the handle to suit the approach

The handle rotates through 360 degrees, which TAJIMA presents as a way to maneuver around tight spaces. This addresses a different problem from flow stopping: finding a usable grip orientation when the direction of the joint changes. It is the second practical reason to put this model on a shortlist.

Rotation does not make the cartridge assembly shorter or create clearance where none exists. Before buying for a particular recess, consider the space the whole loaded gun will occupy, not just whether the grip turns. The useful question is whether a different handle angle would actually help you approach that joint.

The turning feature also deserves a try in the grip position you would actually use. This remains a manually squeezed tool, so check that you can comfortably reach and operate its trigger. If hand fit decides the purchase, holding the exact model gives you information that its rotation range alone cannot provide.

Match the standard model to the material

The CNV-100SP has a stated 12:1 thrust ratio and a four-point Twin Thrust system. TAJIMA attributes stronger plunger drive to that system. Treat the number as a specification for this gun, rather than proof that it will dispense every stiff adhesive easily or make hand effort irrelevant.

Check the sealant manufacturer's dispensing requirements before selecting the gun. Cartridge format and required dispensing force are separate questions: a tube fitting the holder does not settle whether the tool suits its contents. The standard CNV-100SP should not be mistaken for an adjustable gun that switches to the Super 18 or Super 26 specification.

Account for the loaded tool

TAJIMA lists the gun's weight at 710 grams, or 25 ounces. That is tool weight, not its cartridge capacity; the loaded cartridge adds to what you hold. Consider that combination if your project involves many joints or awkward working positions.

The steel barrel includes a seal-puncture pin for opening a cartridge's internal seal. Follow the cartridge's own preparation directions; having a pin does not establish the correct nozzle opening for a particular joint. Choose it when both built-in pressure relief and a changeable grip angle have a clear place in your work. If you need a different refill format, greater specified thrust or a lighter tool, resolve that requirement first. The Convoy name alone is not enough to identify the right gun.
