Wiha 74984 GoBox: Check the Bits Before Choosing a Mini Ratchet

THE BUYING TAKE

Useful when its exact bit list and ratchet geometry match your repair kit. Check both before paying for compactness.

Best for
Small hand-driving jobs needing several bit profiles and limited handle swing.
The trade-off
No T6 or socket assortment; short bits do not solve deep recesses; no assumed impact or insulation rating.

Article summary

This compact metal case combines a 72-tooth mini ratchet with standard bits and an adapter. It helps with limited swing room, but the included sizes and access depth decide whether it solves your job.

The screw is visible, but there is not enough room behind it for a normal screwdriver handle. That is the sort of problem a mini ratchet can address. Wiha's 74984 GoBox brings a short reversible ratchet and a selection of bits together in a small metal case. Before buying it, check two things: whether the right tip is included and whether the complete ratchet-and-bit arrangement can reach the fastener.

Match the actual fastener first

Wiha lists Phillips, slotted, square, Torx, metric hex and inch hex bits in this standard set. That is a useful spread for assorted small repairs, but “32 piece” is not the same as “every size.” The piece count also includes the driving accessories.

For example, the listed Torx selection runs through T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27 and T30. It does not include T6. If a device or fitting calls for a missing size, this box will not solve that requirement without an additional compatible bit.

Identify the screw profile and size before selecting a tip. A close-looking bit that rocks in the recess is a poor substitute for the correct one. For a recurring task, compare the few sizes you actually use with the list rather than judging the set by how full its case looks.

A short swing is only one part of access

The manufacturer specifies a 72-tooth mechanism with a five-degree swing arc. The practical advantage is that a relatively small handle movement can advance the fastener. That is relevant beside a panel or bracket where a long handle cannot rotate freely.

You still need room for the ratchet head, bit and your hand. A screw down a narrow, deep recess may remain inaccessible even when there is plenty of sideways swing space. A long, slim screwdriver can be the better shape for that different problem.

The included ratchet is listed at 90 mm long. Think about the complete working arrangement, not just the length of the handle. Adding the bit holder changes reach and clearance again. There is no single compact tool that automatically fits every awkward corner.

The adapter does not make this a socket set

The set includes an adapter between quarter-inch hex and quarter-inch square drive, plus a locking magnetic bit holder. The adapter allows suitable quarter-inch sockets to work with the ratchet, but a collection of sockets is not included in this standard GoBox.

That distinction matters if you are shopping for nuts and bolts as well as screws. Existing compatible sockets may make the little ratchet more useful. If you own none, include their cost and storage in the comparison with a dedicated socket kit.

This is also a standard bit set, not a promise of impact suitability or electrical insulation. Use components within their intended application and choose properly rated tools where a task requires them. A compact case and a familiar brand are not substitutes for a needed rating.

A small case can keep a repair kit organized

The molded tray gives each component a place, making it easier to notice an empty position when packing up. The metal case is useful for a small tool bag, especially if loose bits otherwise disappear among larger tools.

That organization only helps if you return the components after use. Before closing the box, check the bit you used, the adapter and the holder. A missing small part can be more inconvenient on the next job than carrying a slightly larger kit with everything present.

The 74984 makes sense for varied, light hand-driving tasks where compact storage and limited swing clearance matter. It is less compelling if your work mostly needs long reach, larger leverage or a single dedicated screwdriver. Confirm the standard 74984 contents and current delivered price, then buy it for a real access problem rather than the appeal of a tiny full toolbox.
