AcuRite 00611A3 Thermometer and Hygrometer: Indoor and Outdoor Readings
THE BUYING TAKE
A useful local display for comparing indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, with trends and reset-based temperature extremes adding context. Choose it only if its placement needs and discontinued status fit your plans.
Best for
Households wanting one visible screen for indoor conditions and a shaded outdoor sensor, with occasional checks of temperature highs and lows.
The trade-off
00611A3 is discontinued. It uses a local 433 MHz link, needs batteries in both units and depends on suitable placement and reception. Temperature records reset with power, battery changes or manual clearing; they are not an automatic daily log.

The temperature in your living room and the temperature outside can tell quite different stories. The AcuRite 00611A3 puts both on one display, alongside indoor and outdoor humidity. Its appeal is having the room's conditions and the outdoor sensor's readings in view together, without walking between two thermometers. Trend arrows and stored extremes add a second reason to look beyond the current numbers.
Compare two places from one display
The kit includes a display with a tabletop stand and one outdoor sensor. The screen separates the two locations into labeled sections, each showing temperature and relative humidity. Put the sensor outside to observe outdoor conditions; the indoor reading comes from where the display sits. Neither location should be treated as a measurement of every room or the whole yard.
The display can stand on a table or mount on a wall in a dry, clean area. A button on its back switches between Fahrenheit and Celsius. A desk or hallway position where you regularly pass can make the readings convenient to check, as long as it avoids sunlight, heat sources and vents.
The sensor communicates with the display at 433 MHz. This is a local sensor-and-screen arrangement, so choose it for checking at home; phone access calls for a different kind of product. AcuRite specifies outdoor updates every 31 seconds and indoor updates every 60 seconds. Those intervals suit periodic glances, but the numbers do not refresh continuously as conditions change.
Give current readings some context
Arrows beside the temperature and humidity readings indicate their direction of change. A falling outdoor temperature and a steady indoor reading tell you something different from two values moving together. That is the usefulness of seeing direction alongside a number: it helps distinguish the current reading from its trend, without turning the arrows into a weather forecast.
The high/low records add another view. The manual defines temperature extremes as the minimum and maximum recorded since power-on, a battery change or a manual reset, whichever happened most recently. The screen also provides high and low humidity record indicators.
For example, clear the temperature records before bed, then check the low the following morning to see the minimum recorded over that interval. This gives the record a period you can interpret. Without a deliberate reset, an older extreme may remain relevant to the stored record. Buy for that simple check of extremes, rather than expecting a fresh set every midnight.
Plan the sensor's position before buying
The outdoor sensor is water resistant, and AcuRite recommends protecting it from direct weather. Its placement guidance calls for permanent shade, circulating air and a position 4 to 8 feet above the ground. Keep both units away from direct sunlight, heat sources and vents. A convenient sunny window is therefore a poor default location for measuring surrounding air conditions.
The stated wireless range is up to 165 feet, depending on home construction. Thick walls, metal and other obstructions can limit communication. Think about the path between the planned sensor and display positions; a straight distance alone will not settle whether those positions work. The manual also calls for separation from electronics that can interfere.
Allow for batteries in both pieces: two AA alkaline batteries in the display and two AA alkaline or lithium batteries in the sensor. Below -4°F (-20°C), AcuRite calls for lithium batteries outdoors. That matters if winter readings are a main reason for buying; the recommended sensor battery type changes with the conditions where it will operate.
Check the model when ordering. AcuRite files 00611A3 under discontinued products, while its current product page identifies 00611A4. The similar names do not establish identical features or parts. If you need a model in current production or assured future replacement availability, this older A3 is a less suitable choice.
The 00611A3 makes most sense when you want to glance at two locations and occasionally review their temperature extremes. Choose it if you have a sheltered sensor position and a useful indoor viewing spot, and you accept the discontinued-model tradeoff. Those practical conditions determine whether its paired readings will earn a place in your daily routine.
