Clover Wonder Clips 50-Pack: Keep Folded Binding in Place

THE BUYING TAKE

A practical 50-pack for holding binding and layered edges, particularly when avoiding pin punctures is part of the job.

Best for
Quilters and bag makers who regularly secure folded binding, vinyl edges or layered joins before sewing.
The trade-off
Clips need an accessible edge and must come off before the presser foot. Fifty may be unnecessary if a few existing clips already work.

Folded quilt binding can lift away from the edge just when you need both hands at the sewing machine. Clover Wonder Clips hold that fold while you arrange the next section. The red 50-pack, model 3156, suits sewing projects that need several holding points along an accessible edge, especially when pushing pins through the material would leave unwanted holes.

These are standard-size Wonder Clips, with red tops and clear, flat bases. Their value is the way they grip a fold or layered edge and then move out of the way before stitching.

Hold an edge without piercing the material

Pins secure fabric by passing through it; these clips close around the edge. Clover identifies laminated fabrics, synthetic leather and leather as applications where avoiding pin holes matters. For a bag panel made from one of those materials, that gives you a way to hold the edges together without puncturing them for temporary positioning.

Layered work is another reason to consider them. Clover lists quilt binding, piping and handbag handle connectors among their uses. Those projects put several thicknesses together at an edge or join. A clip holds that local section while you line up the adjacent material, instead of asking one hand to keep every fold in place.

The jaws need an edge or fold they can reach. For holding a pattern or layers well inside a broad panel, pins or another suitable basting method may still make more sense. This pack is most useful when the recurring job is edge preparation.

Keep the base flat, and remove each clip before sewing

The lower jaw has a flat underside. Clover designed it to sit against the work surface as you bring the fabric toward the presser foot. That is a useful detail when a folded binding is resting on the machine bed: the clip can hold the fold while its base lies along that surface.

The clear base also carries seam-allowance reference lines. These give you a visual guide while positioning the material in the clip. Use the marked guide that suits your project, and check the intended allowance against your pattern or ruler. The clip does not set the needle position or replace the sewing machine's seam guide.

Remove each clip before its section of fabric reaches the presser foot, as Clover instructs. The remaining clips can hold the material farther ahead while you guide the cleared section through. Clover also lists sergers as a suitable application; remove the clips before feeding fabric under the foot there, too.

Decide whether fifty clips fit your routine

A 50-piece pack makes sense when you want several sections held at once. On a quilt edge, you can arrange a run of folded binding before starting to stitch. During bag making, separate clips can hold different layered joins while you check their alignment. How many you need depends on the project and how far ahead you like to prepare.

The red tops make the holding points easy to spot on many lighter fabrics. The transparent lower jaws leave some of the material visible. Those are useful handling details, but they do not tell you whether a particular stack fits comfortably between the jaws. Check the actual layers before committing to a run of stitching.

If you already use office binder clips for sewing, check how they sit at the machine. Compare the Clover's flat base and marked underside with your setup, particularly if seam-reference lines would help you position a fold.

Buy this pack when accessible edges, folded binding or layered joins are a regular part of your sewing. If you already have clips that hold those sections comfortably, the Clover pack may duplicate a job you have solved. If you only need a few holding points at a time, fifty may be more than your routine requires.
