Elgato Stream Deck Neo Control Pad: 8 Custom LCD Keys

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose it when you already have repetitive computer actions to automate; skip it if you need dials, more always-visible keys, or a wireless controller.

Best for
Office workers, creators, and frequent video-call users who want visible one-tap shortcuts without giving a full-size control deck much desk space.
The trade-off
Eight physical keys require page switching for larger setups, the fixed USB-C cable is not easily replaceable, and useful results depend on spending time configuring actions.

A shortcut controller only earns desk space if it removes more friction than it creates. The Elgato Stream Deck Neo is a compact eight-key controller built to turn repeated computer actions into labeled buttons, with an Infobar and two touch points for moving between pages.

The exact Amazon US listing used here is ASIN B0CVY4566H, the white Stream Deck Neo. Its strongest case is not streaming alone. It can also handle the small repetitive actions that pile up during office work, calls, creative tasks, and everyday computer use.

Eight LCD keys make repetitive actions visible

Each of the eight physical keys has its own LCD display, so a shortcut can show an icon or label instead of forcing you to remember another keyboard combination. Elgato's free Stream Deck app uses drag-and-drop setup for actions, and the device can work with apps and plugins for tasks such as muting a call, opening a folder, controlling music, launching an app, or triggering a multi-step action.

That visual feedback is the main advantage over memorizing hotkeys. If you repeatedly hunt through menus for the same commands, putting those actions on dedicated keys can make a workflow easier to repeat.

The tradeoff is setup. Stream Deck Neo does not know which tasks matter to you until you configure it. Someone who dislikes customizing software may get less value from it than a person who can quickly name eight actions they perform every day.

Touch Points let eight keys stretch across more pages

Eight keys can sound limiting next to larger Stream Deck models, but Neo adds two capacitive Touch Points beside its Infobar. They are designed for paging through different key layouts, so the same physical keys can expose additional groups of actions.

The Infobar provides a small information display between the touch controls. Elgato also supports pinned actions and folders in its Stream Deck software, which helps keep frequently used controls available while other pages change.

This makes Neo a sensible fit for someone who wants a smaller controller rather than the maximum number of dedicated buttons. If you want many actions visible at once, however, a larger Stream Deck with more physical keys will require less page switching.

The compact stand works for a permanent desk or a small setup

Elgato lists Stream Deck Neo at 107 by 26 by 78 mm and about 210 g. The integrated stand supports three positions, so it can sit more upright or flatter depending on the desk layout. A fixed 90 cm USB-C cable connects it to the computer.

Those dimensions keep the footprint modest beside a keyboard, laptop stand, or microphone. The fixed cable is simple, but it is also a limitation: unlike a detachable cable, it cannot be swapped as easily for a different length or replaced independently if damaged.

Neo is a wired desktop controller, not a portable Bluetooth keypad. That is worth knowing before buying if your goal is a device you constantly move between computers without cables.

Buy it when you already know what you want to automate

Stream Deck Neo is easiest to justify when you can name repetitive actions before buying it. Frequent video calls, document work, music control, creative-app shortcuts, folder access, and routine multi-step commands all give the eight LCD keys a clear job.

It is less compelling if you rarely repeat the same computer actions, want physical dials for audio control, or prefer a larger grid that keeps many shortcuts visible at once. The Stream Deck + adds dials, while larger Stream Deck models offer more keys.

For the right desk, Neo strikes a useful middle ground: more flexible than a few fixed macro buttons, smaller than a full-size control deck, and visual enough that shortcuts do not have to live in your memory.
