THE BUYING TAKE
Consider it if the desk accepts the clamp and the loaded arm can move between two useful positions.
Best for
A solid desk edge and an open, measured route near the work surface.
The trade-off

Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP / 10AAN9901
Black standard low-profile desk-clamp microphone arm
A microphone arm needs two places to work. It needs a position where the microphone reaches your mouth during a call or recording, and somewhere to park when you use the keyboard or clear the desk. The black Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP puts much of its swing close to the desk surface, so the path between those two places matters. Before buying, sketch that path around the monitor base, keyboard and anything else that sits in the way.
Start at the edge where the clamp can actually sit
Elgato specifies a clamp opening up to 60 mm. Measure the edge where you intend to mount it, including any reinforcing lip, trim or apron under the top. A top can look thin from the front and still leave no room for the clamp screw underneath. Check that both contact surfaces are flat, that the screw can turn freely and that the desk manufacturer permits clamping at that point. If the top is glass, hollow or otherwise uncertain, verify what it can support before fastening an arm to it.
Try the side of the desk as well as the rear edge when you plan the layout. A rear mount can work when the arm can pass below the display without hitting its stand. A side mount may suit a desk with a shelf behind the monitor or a wall close to the back edge. Leave space to tighten the clamp and unplug any nearby cables after the arm is installed. Those small access checks are easier to do before the microphone is on the arm.
Check the working position and the parking position
The LP has a specified horizontal reach of 740 mm. That measurement does not account for an obstacle along your route or for the angle you need at the microphone. Elgato lists lower- and upper-arm desk clearances of 70 mm and 160 mm. Use them as planning dimensions, then measure your actual objects and allow room for the microphone assembly. A raised keyboard, desk shelf or open notebook may occupy exactly the space the elbow needs.
A useful rehearsal is to mark the proposed clamp location and trace the two arm sections across the desk with strips of paper. Sit in your normal position. Check whether the microphone can approach from the side without covering your view of the screen, then move the paper to the parked position and make sure the keyboard and mouse still have room. This will not reproduce the arm's joints, but it can reveal a monitor foot or lamp base you would otherwise overlook.

Weigh the assembly and route the cable last
The specified 2 kg load includes accessories. Count the microphone, shock mount, pop filter and any adapter you plan to leave on the arm. Check the thread on the actual mount too. Elgato supports 1/4-, 3/8- and 5/8-inch mounting threads through its mount and supplied adapters. Start with the thread that matches your holder, then position the mic so its cable socket remains accessible.
The magnetic covers give the cable a route along the arm. Leave a small service loop at the microphone and enough slack at moving joints. Before closing the covers, move between the working and parked positions while watching the cable. A lead that looks neat when the arm is still can pull at the connector when you swing the elbow. If the plug or cable is unusually bulky, check its fit before relying on the channel to conceal the whole run.
Decide whether a low swing fits your desk
The Wave Mic Arm LP suits a desk with a solid clamp location and a clear route near the surface. It can leave more of the space above the desk open, but it also puts the arm in the same area as stands, trays and notebooks. If the only safe route rises over an object, map that route before choosing this design. Buy the black standard LP for a planned mounting position and a known microphone assembly. The mic and other equipment shown in the product illustrations are separate.
