Hoover CleanSlate Plus FH14050: Use the Wide Tool for Stairs, Then Flush the Hose

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose it if recurring sofa, stair, rug, pet, or car-interior spots are too large for hand blotting but too small to justify setting up a full-size carpet extractor.

Best for
Homes with carpeted stairs, upholstered furniture, pets, rugs, or vehicle interiors that regularly need localized spray-scrub-suction cleaning.
The trade-off
It is corded, still requires hand-tool cleaning and post-use rinsing, does not replace a dry vacuum or hard-floor washer, and remains slow for whole-room carpet extraction.

Portable spot cleaners earn their keep when the mess is too wet for a towel but too small to justify dragging out a full-size carpet washer. The Hoover CleanSlate Plus FH14050 is built for exactly that middle ground: stairs, sofa cushions, rugs, car seats, and localized carpet stains that need cleaning solution, agitation, and suction in one compact machine.

Its most useful idea is not just portability. Hoover pairs a 7-inch WidePath tool for larger patches with a TightSpot tool for seams and narrow spaces, then adds a hose-rinse tool so the machine can flush residue out of the system before storage. That makes the FH14050 more practical for repeated household messes than a cleaner that is convenient during the stain but unpleasant to clean afterward.

The 7-inch WidePath tool is the reason it can handle more than tiny spots

Many portable extractors use narrow hand tools that work well on a single spill but become slow on a stair tread or a sofa seat. The FH14050 includes a 7-inch WidePath tool so you can cover a larger area without making dozens of overlapping passes.

Hoover also includes a TightSpot tool for crevices and hard-to-reach areas. That combination matters in a real home because stains do not arrive in one shape. A pet accident on a rug, a drink on a couch cushion, and grime between car-seat sections all need different access.

The tradeoff is that this is still a hand-tool machine. Even with the wider attachment, cleaning a whole room of wall-to-wall carpet will take much longer than using a full-size upright extractor.

A 40-ounce clean tank gives you useful capacity without turning it into an upright

The CleanSlate Plus uses a dual-tank system, keeping clean solution separate from recovered dirty water. Current product information for FH14050 lists a 40-ounce clean-solution capacity.

That is enough for several localized areas in one session, but it is still a portable cleaner. Large jobs can mean stopping to refill the clean tank and empty the recovery tank.

The machine is corded, with a 15-foot power cord, so there is no battery to recharge in the middle of a job. Hoover also uses roughly a 4.5-foot hose on the CleanSlate platform, which gives useful reach for stairs, furniture, and vehicle interiors without moving the base every few seconds.

The hose-rinse tool solves an ownership problem, not just a cleaning problem

A spot cleaner handles the part of the mess you wanted removed, but the dirty water and formula then travel through the tool and hose. Put the machine away without rinsing it and old residue can become the next problem.

Hoover includes a hose-rinse tool that pulls clean water through the hose after use. You still need to empty and rinse the tanks, clean the tools, and let parts dry, but flushing the hose makes that routine more manageable.

That maintenance step is especially important if the machine is used for pet accidents, food, or car interiors. Portability is only valuable if the cleaner is actually ready the next time a stain happens.

It is not a vacuum, steam cleaner, or hard-floor machine

The FH14050 is designed for carpet and upholstery spot extraction. Loose crumbs, grit, and hair should be vacuumed first so the machine can focus on wet cleaning and recovery.

It also is not a steam cleaner. The owner guidance centers on carpet-cleaning solution, spray, agitation, and suction rather than steam.

One warning is especially worth keeping visible: Hoover's FH14050 manual says not to use this extractor on hard floors because it may scratch or damage them. That makes the CleanSlate Plus a soft-surface tool, not a replacement for a steam mop or wet-dry hard-floor washer.

Buy it if your messes are bigger than a stain pen but smaller than a whole room

Choose the CleanSlate Plus FH14050 if your recurring problems are sofa spills, carpeted stairs, pet messes, rugs, or car upholstery. The wider tool handles larger patches, the TightSpot tool reaches narrow areas, and the hose-rinse accessory makes cleanup after the cleanup less annoying.

Skip it if most of your cleaning is on hard floors, you need dry vacuuming and wet cleaning in one pass, or you regularly deep-clean full carpeted rooms. Its value comes from being quick enough to pull out for the messes that happen between major cleaning sessions.
