If you rinse rice in a sieve before tipping it into a microwave dish, the Joseph Joseph M-Cuisine 45002 changes that handoff. Its handled colander stays inside the cooking pot, keeping the rice in the same basket through rinsing and cooking. At the table, the paddle that locked the lid becomes your serving utensil.

The set includes a 2-liter pot, colander, lid, measuring cup and paddle. You provide a compatible microwave and follow the water, cooking and standing guidance for the food you are making.

Keep the rice in its rinsing basket

Measure the rice into the colander and rinse it there. The basket's integrated handle gives you a place to hold it for rinsing and draining. Joseph Joseph's instructions then put the colander inside the cooking pot before adding the required water. The rice stays in the basket during cooking.

A separate sieve can handle the rinsing step in your existing routine. Here, the basket is also part of the cooking container, so you do not tip the rinsed rice into a different dish. You still measure, rinse and add water; these matched pieces change how the steps connect.

The included cup has cup and milliliter markings. Use the booklet's quantities and water guidance for the rice or grain you are preparing. The pot's 2-liter volume is not a direction to fill it with 2 liters of dry rice, nor a promised number of portions.

Let the paddle hold the lid, then serve

Once the water is added, place the lid on the pot and lock it with the paddle. The paddle spans the lid, with its ends forming carrying handles when locked. Keep the openings in the lid clear, as the instructions require.

After cooking and the specified standing time, use the same paddle to fluff and serve the rice from the pot. If you want to bring the rice to the table in its cooking container, the utensil for serving it is already part of the set. Its role changes as you move from a closed container to serving the meal.

The paddle forms handles only when locked into position. Protect your hands when removing the container from the microwave: either the container or its contents may be very hot.

Match the cooker to the microwave and grain

Joseph Joseph specifies microwave ovens up to 900 watts. Check your appliance before buying. The booklet's cooking tables are based on an 800-watt oven and tell you to adjust cooking times for your microwave. That guidance does not establish permission to use a higher-powered oven at a guessed lower setting.

The tables distinguish basmati, jasmine, long-grain and wholegrain rice, as well as porridge oats. Amount, water and time belong together. Rice entries include a five-minute standing period; the oat table specifies two minutes. Allow for that standing time as part of preparing the food, rather than expecting it to be ready as soon as the microwave stops.

Check physical fit, too. The manufacturer's dimensions are 13.5 centimeters high, 22 wide and 18 deep. Compare that footprint with the usable space in your microwave and the room needed to put the assembled pot in and take it out.

Plan for moisture and cleanup

The manual calls for regular moisture checks during cooking. Do not let rice or grains dry out or overheat; add water if necessary. You need to oversee this process and follow the guidelines for each batch.

The set is dishwasher safe. Strong colorants such as turmeric can stain it, so Joseph Joseph advises avoiding them. Keep it out of conventional ovens, convection-mode cooking, hobs and grills.

Choose the 45002 for its integrated rinsing basket and the paddle's locking, carrying and serving roles. If your existing rice-cooking routine already suits you, those handling details need to offer a useful change before another set earns a place in the kitchen.
