Koss Porta Pro Classic Headphones: Fold for a Small Bag
THE BUYING TAKE
Choose the Porta Pro Classic when you want folding wired headphones for quiet rooms, its on-ear fit suits you, and your device connects conveniently.
Best for
Listeners who want folding wired headphones for quiet rooms and prefer cushions on their ears to earbuds.
The trade-off
The open design offers little separation from surrounding sound and is unsuitable when sound leakage would disturb someone nearby. Its on-ear fit is personal, and devices without a headphone socket need a compatible audio adapter.

Article summary
The Porta Pro Classic packs down for a small bag and plays through a 3.5mm connection without charging. Its open design makes the destination important: a quiet room suits it better than a noisy commute or a seat beside someone who needs silence.

For listening in a quiet room away from home, bulky headphones can be an awkward thing to pack. The black-and-silver Koss Porta Pro Classic folds down and connects through a 3.5mm plug, without a headphone battery to charge. Its portability is useful for the destination; the open design makes it a poor choice for blocking noise on the journey.
Open earcups change where you listen
The Porta Pro's open earcups let surrounding sound through. That can suit listening at home when you prefer not to feel sealed away, but nearby conversation remains part of the setting. Beside a television or across from someone taking calls, you may find yourself following the room instead of the music.
Think about the person beside you, too. An open design is a poor starting point when keeping your music to yourself is essential. A shared bedroom with someone sleeping or a closely packed quiet study area calls for a more isolating option. Choose the listening spot with both your own concentration and your neighbor's quiet in mind.
Avoid turning up the volume to compete with background noise. Loud listening, especially over long periods, can damage hearing. Moving to a quieter spot is a better response than asking these headphones to overpower the room.
Check the fit and the repair terms
The foam cushions rest on your ears. An adjustable headband and Koss's Comfort Zone pressure switches give you ways to alter the fit, but they cannot guarantee comfort for every head shape. If pressure on your outer ears bothers you, try this style before committing to a long listening session. Someone who prefers cushions that surround the ears should pay particular attention to that difference.
Judge the fit while doing what you bought them for: sitting with a book or listening through an album, for example. A quick adjustment establishes the position; it does not tell you whether you will want to keep wearing them an hour later.
Koss lists a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the Classic. The terms cover defects in materials and workmanship during normal use by the initial user or purchaser, and exclude an initial owner who allows multiple people to use the headphones. In the United States, the return shipping and handling charge is $9 per pair; you also need to send the headphones to Koss, so allow for outbound postage. That is a service route to weigh against replacement, not a promise of free shipping or indefinite wear. Buyers outside the United States should check with their local authorized Koss dealer.

Keep the connection simple enough to use
The standard Classic has a four-foot cable ending in a 3.5mm plug. The cable splits into a Y, with a lead entering each earcup. Notice that arrangement if you prefer a cord running down only one side: both leads sit between the headphones and your player during use.
For a music player or computer with a suitable headphone socket, this means no Bluetooth pairing or headphone charging. The source device still needs power. A phone without that socket needs a compatible audio adapter, so check the connector and audio support for your exact phone. Include that accessory in the total cost; a data or charging adapter is not automatically an audio adapter.
Also consider whether the adapter would occupy the port you normally use to charge the phone. If you listen while charging, work out that connection before ordering: buying headphones should not leave you choosing between finishing an album and restoring the phone's battery.
Choose the Classic if the open, on-ear design and simple wired connection suit where you listen. If your current earbuds already pack neatly, fit comfortably, and work with your device, keeping them for everyday listening is a reasonable decision.
