Nite Ize S-Biner Size #2 vs MicroLock: Gates and Key Fit
Choose between direct spring-gate access on the Size #2 and a smaller MicroLock that adds a shared twist lock. The exact black options also differ in package count: one Size #2 or two MicroLocks.
Choose the single Size #2 if you want a larger clip and direct access through a non-locking spring gate. Choose the smaller MicroLock two-pack if you will use its shared locking step and have room to operate the lever.

A key clip can add a useful step or an annoying one every time a key comes off your ring. With the Nite Ize S-Biner Size #2, you press a spring gate. With the MicroLock, you first turn a central lever to unlock the gates. Decide whether you want that extra locking action before choosing the smaller clip simply because it takes up less space.
This comparison covers one black SB2-03-01 Size #2 and the black LSBM-01-2R3 MicroLock two-pack. Both are stainless steel accessory clips for detachable keys and other small items. Their two-ended layout is shared; the lock, outside dimensions, and package count are the useful differences.
The MicroLock locks both ends together
Both designs let one end connect to a main ring or attachment loop while the other carries the item you remove. You can open the item's gate without pressing the gate at the anchor end. That is the common reason to consider an S-shaped clip for a detachable key.
The Size #2 keeps the operation direct. Press the relevant wire gate, move the item through, and let the gate close. There is no central locking lever to turn before or after the transfer. This suits someone who repeatedly detaches the same item and specifically wants a spring closure without an additional control.
The MicroLock adds a plastic lever in the center. Turning it to the locked position blocks both wire gates; turning it back releases that shared lock. Unlocking does not itself swing the gates open, but it does mean the anchor end is no longer locked while you work at the other end. Keep hold of the connection during the change, then close the gates and reset the lever.
That distinction matters if your requirement is “one end must remain locked while I open the other.” Neither of these selected clips supplies that arrangement: the Size #2 has no locking gates, and the MicroLock uses one shared control. Buy the MicroLock for its deliberate gate-locking step, without treating it as an independently locking pair or an anti-theft device.

Compare the outline, then check the actual connection
Nite Ize lists Size #2 at 0.8 by 1.9 by 0.3 inches. The MicroLock's listed outside dimensions are 0.6 by 1.4 by 0.3 inches. The MicroLock therefore adds a shorter, narrower body to your key setup. The Size #2 is worth considering if you deliberately want a larger connector to pick up and your setup has room for it.
Those figures describe the outside, not the usable gate opening. They do not establish that a thick split ring, bulky fob, or particular key hole will fit. A larger body also does not prove easier use with gloves. Check the actual part you intend to attach, rather than choosing from the overall length alone.
There are two fit questions: can the attachment pass through the opened gate, and can you still operate the clip once it is in place? On the MicroLock, leave room for a fingertip to turn the center lever as well as press the wire gate. An existing small split ring may provide a workable connection for a fob with an awkward attachment point, but the ring must fit too.
SB2-03-01 is the black Size #2 sold singly. It fits a purchase plan built around one removable item, especially when you want the larger outline and direct gate action. Check the model and size together; other S-Biner sizes and locking versions are separate selections.
LSBM-01-2R3 contains two black stainless steel MicroLocks. You can assign one to each of two keys that leave the main ring separately, or use one and keep a spare. That is a second reason to choose this pack beyond the lock itself. It does not include the keys or a main organizer ring, and the single-clip photographs illustrate the mechanism rather than the current two-pack packaging.
Both remain accessories for ordinary key and small-item organization. Nite Ize excludes climbing and connections where disengagement could cause injury or property damage. The MicroLock's lever does not turn it into safety hardware or guarantee that an item cannot be lost.
For frequent transfers where a non-locking spring gate is acceptable, the single Size #2 gives you direct operation and the larger body. For a smaller connector and a locking step you are willing to perform each time, choose the MicroLock two-pack. Make the decision with the key, ring, and attachment loop you actually plan to use; the lock only earns its place if you can reach and operate it.
Direct spring-gate access suits frequent transfers when the reader accepts a non-locking closure and wants no extra lever operation.
The larger 1.9-inch outline and single-unit pack suit a buyer who specifically wants a larger connector for one detachable item, subject to checking actual gate fit.
THE LIMITS
There is no lock to block either gate.
The outside dimensions do not specify the usable gate opening or establish fit for thick rings, fobs or gloves.
It is an accessory clip, not safety or climbing hardware.
02Nite Ize LSBM-01-2R3 — S-Biner MicroLock Stainless Steel / Black / model LSBM-01-2R3 / two-pack / UPC 094664026674
WHY CONSIDER IT
The manual shared lock suits a reader willing to add a deliberate gate-locking action each time the connection is restored.
Two smaller clips can be assigned separately to two detachable keys or items, with a shorter outside body than Size #2.
THE LIMITS
Both ends share the same lock; one cannot remain independently locked while the other is unlocked.
The small lever needs accessible space as well as a compatible attachment through the gate.
The photographs were taken in 2014 and show used examples with older lettering; they do not show current two-pack packaging or new-stock condition.
It is not an anti-theft device or safety/climbing hardware, and locking does not guarantee against loss.
