OXO Large Salad Spinner: One-Handed Pump Control

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the OXO Good Grips Large Salad Spinner if washed greens are a regular part of your kitchen routine and one-handed spinning plus a separate brake is worth the cabinet space.

Best for
Home cooks who frequently wash lettuce, herbs, berries, or vegetables and want one basket to rinse, spin, and drain them.
The trade-off
The large bowl takes real cabinet space, the pump is manual rather than powered, and occasional salad makers may already be well served by a colander and towel.

Freshly washed lettuce can make a salad watery before the dressing even goes on. The OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner solves that narrow problem with a one-handed pump: press the top, spin the basket, tap the brake, and pour away the water that leaves the greens.

The selected Amazon version is the white Large B00004OCKR. It makes the most sense for people who wash leafy greens, herbs, berries, or vegetables often enough to want a dedicated drying step instead of towels and extra counter space.

Press the pump instead of cranking a handle

OXO’s current product page centers the design on a soft, non-slip pump that can be pressed with one hand. The bowl stays on the counter while the inner basket spins. A non-slip base helps keep the spinner from walking across the worktop, and a separate brake button stops the basket when you are ready to unload it.

That workflow is the main reason to consider this spinner. You do not need to hold the bowl with one hand and turn a crank with the other. Pressing down also keeps the motion vertical, which is useful when the spinner is sitting beside the sink with wet produce inside.

The pump is not a motor. You still create the spin manually, and the result depends on how much produce is in the basket and how freely it can move. Do not pack the basket so tightly that the leaves cannot circulate.

Use the basket as the washing colander

The selected Large version has a 6.22-quart outer bowl and a removable inner basket. OXO says that basket also works as a colander, which gives the spinner a simple two-stage routine: rinse produce in the basket, return it to the bowl, then spin.

That matters more than a feature list suggests. The same basket can move from sink to spinner without transferring wet lettuce into a separate strainer. For herbs or a head of lettuce, fewer container changes can make the whole wash-and-dry step feel less fussy.

The bowl is still large. Amazon lists the spinner at roughly 10.25 inches across and 6.75 inches high, so this is not a tiny gadget for a crowded drawer. Measure the shelf or cabinet where it will live before assuming the pump lock makes the entire spinner “flat.”

Lock the pump down for storage

OXO’s pump can be locked in the down position after use. That does not collapse the bowl; it simply gives the lid a flatter top so the spinner is easier to stack or slide onto a shelf.

This is an important distinction for a large kitchen tool. If cabinet height is limited, the lock helps. If cabinet width is the real problem, the 10-inch-plus bowl still needs a full footprint.

The lid comes apart for cleaning, and OXO currently marks the spinner dishwasher safe. Rinse out trapped leaf pieces before the dishwasher cycle so the spinner does not become a storage place for food debris between uses.

Buy it for washed greens, not because it is popular

The current Amazon selected page shows strong demand, but popularity is not the reason to give up cabinet space. The better question is whether wet produce is a recurring part of your routine.

If you wash lettuce, herbs, berries, or vegetables several times a week, a dedicated spinner can combine rinsing, draining, spinning, and serving-bowl storage in one setup. If you buy pre-washed greens or make salad occasionally, a colander and clean towel may already solve the problem well enough.

Choose the OXO Good Grips Large Salad Spinner when you want one-handed spinning, a separate brake, a basket that doubles as a colander, and a large reusable bowl. Skip it when storage space is tighter than your need for a dedicated produce-drying tool.
