Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap: Stows as a Bracelet

THE BUYING TAKE

A useful wrist strap for photographers who repeatedly take a camera out and put it away. The Anchor Link connection separates quickly, and the detached strap can remain on your wrist as a magnetic bracelet.

Best for
Photographers who usually shoot with the camera in hand, want a removable wrist tether and would use either bracelet or pocket storage between shooting sessions.
The trade-off
Check the camera attachment point and wrist fit, and inspect Anchor cords according to their instructions. The bracelet magnet does not attach the camera, and a wrist strap does not distribute weight to your shoulder.

Peak Design Cuff has a place to wait while your camera is packed away: your wrist. Detached from the camera, the Black wrist strap wraps into a bracelet, with an adjustable magnet holding its loose end. On a walk with several stops for pictures, that keeps the strap available without having to store it with the camera.

Keep the detached strap on your wrist

The bracelet feature gives a removable strap a convenient place to go. Disconnect the camera, wrap Cuff around your wrist and reposition the magnet along the strap to meet the loose end. The adjustment matters because the closure needs to line up with the wrap that fits you.

The camera connects through an Anchor Link receiver, while the magnet holds the strap's free end during bracelet storage. The magnetic closure is not the camera attachment.

If you prefer an uncovered wrist between photographs, Cuff can go in a pocket instead. The standard package also includes a microfiber pouch. Bracelet storage is an option you can use when it suits the outing, without making it your only way to put the strap away.

Leave the Anchor on the camera

An Anchor is the small cord loop and disc that joins the camera to the strap. The official Cuff guide illustrates the cord passing through a camera attachment point, the disc passing through that loop, and the disc seating in the strap's receiver. Check that your camera has a suitable attachment point and follow its guidance as well.

Once installed, that small Anchor can stay on the camera when the wrist strap is disconnected. This is the more practical reason to want the quick release: you can remove the longer strap without repeatedly unthreading the cord from the camera. It suits a camera that comes out for a short shooting session, then returns to its bag.

The wrist loop has a separate adjustment. Its slider can lock the loop open for putting it on or taking it off, and you can cinch the loop around your wrist during use.

Include the connecting cord in your routine checks. Peak Design's linked guide shows a yellow inner wear layer and calls for replacement when that layer becomes visible. Follow the inspection and replacement instructions supplied with your Anchors; a quick-release connection is still a part that needs attention.

Match it to a camera-in-hand routine

The Black CF-BL-3 uses seatbelt-style nylon webbing with Hypalon accents, plus aluminum and glass-filled nylon hardware. Try the wrist fit while operating your own camera, including the lens you plan to carry. Make sure the loop and adjuster work with your normal grip.

Cuff is most persuasive when you usually keep the camera in your hand while shooting and want a wrist tether during that time. It does not transfer the camera's weight to your shoulder. For long stretches of carrying with both hands available, a suitable neck or shoulder strap addresses a different need.

The standard box contains one Cuff, two Anchors and one microfiber pouch. The second Anchor can be kept as a spare. Alternatively, installing one on each of two compatible cameras would let you move the single strap between them, one camera at a time. A camera and lens are not included.

For a camera you repeatedly take out and put away, Cuff offers a useful division: the small Anchor stays on the body, and the longer strap can wait on your wrist or in a pocket. If that suits your shooting routine, check attachment and wrist fit, then consider Cuff. If the priority is carrying a heavy setup with both hands free, look for suitable shoulder or neck support.
