Wera Tool-Check PLUS 1: A Ratchet Set for Tight Spaces

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the Tool-Check PLUS 1 for cramped small repairs and an organized metric kit; skip it when you need SAE sockets, impact use or measured torque.

Best for
People who regularly handle small metric repairs and want a compact ratchet, bits and sockets in one visible, locking holder.
The trade-off
The socket selection is metric and limited to seven sizes; it is not an impact-rated socket set or a torque-measuring tool. The plastic holder is compact, but the complete kit weighs 498 g.

The screw is visible. Your screwdriver fits the head. But the cabinet wall leaves almost no room to turn it. That is the sort of problem the Wera Tool-Check PLUS 1 addresses: not a shortage of tools, but having the wrong shape of tool in your hand.

This 39-piece metric set, model 05049055001, combines a miniature bit ratchet, a short screwdriver handle, bits and sockets in one organized holder. Its appeal is a small repair kit you can carry to the job without bringing a full socket case and a separate pile of drivers.

A six-degree swing beats repeated repositioning

The included Zyklop Mini ratchet is 87 mm long and has a 60-tooth mechanism with a six-degree return angle. In practical terms, you can advance a screw through short back-and-forth movements instead of repeatedly lifting the bit out and finding the screw head again.

That matters beside a cabinet panel or inside a narrow furniture frame, where a conventional screwdriver handle may not have a useful turning arc. The ratchet accepts the quarter-inch hex bits directly; you do not need the socket adapter when driving screws. A lever changes direction for tightening or loosening.

Small does not mean it fits everywhere. The head, bit and your fingers still need clearance, especially around recessed screws. Buy it for access, not as a promise that every awkward fastener becomes reachable.

One kit, three ways to turn a fastener

The ratchet is only part of the package. The separate 78 mm Kraftform handle gives you a short, straight screwdriver for screws with better access. This is a different tool from the ratchet, not a ratcheting screwdriver handle.

For socket work, fit the included 870/1 adapter between the ratchet and a quarter-inch-drive socket. The 50 mm Rapidaptor bit holder supplies another useful connection for compatible powered screwdrivers. Its quick-release mechanism is designed to make changing bits less fiddly.

Those options let the same selection serve different positions: a short handle for an accessible screw, a ratchet beside an obstruction, or a socket for a small hex fastener. You are buying ways to use the pieces, not simply a larger number printed on a box. No powered driver is included.

See what you packed before you leave

The black holder keeps the tools visible, with green locking components to retain them during transport. Printed socket sizes and color coding give you a place to start when choosing the next tool. Match the marking to the fastener rather than relying on color alone.

This layout also makes a missing socket easier to notice before you close up the job. With loose pieces in a pouch, checking the kit means rummaging; here, an empty position is visible. That is a practical reason to choose the organized set over assembling a handful of separate tools.

Wera lists the complete set at 190 by 100 by 35 mm and 498 g. It is compact enough to consider for a small maintenance bag, but it is not a featherweight keychain accessory. The holder is plastic, not a sealed metal toolbox.

Check the sizes, not just the piece count

The seven sockets are 5.5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 and 13 mm. The 28 bits cover selected Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx, security Torx, slotted and hex sizes. The remaining four pieces are the ratchet, screwdriver handle, bit holder and adapter: 39 pieces does not mean 39 different bit sizes.

Check that selection against the work you actually do. It is not an SAE socket assortment, and Wera specifies the supplied sockets for non-impact use. Nor does the ratchet measure tightening torque. Jobs requiring a specified torque still need the appropriate torque tool.

The best reason to choose this set is repeated small repairs where access and keeping the right pieces together matter more than a long handle or a huge assortment.
