Wiha PocketMax 45292 Bit-Magazine Screwdriver: Eight Bits Stay in the Handle

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the 45292 when the inconvenience is carrying several full-size screwdrivers or searching for loose common bits. Skip it when the job needs precision electronics tips, hex or security profiles, a ratchet, a torque setting or certified electrical insulation.

Best for
Maintenance bags, kitchen and furniture adjustments, equipment panels and general repair kits where eight common 1/4-inch bits cover most planned fasteners.
The trade-off
The handle is only as versatile as its eight included profiles, and the exact 45292 is a manual magnetic bit driver rather than a ratcheting, torque-controlled or insulated electrical screwdriver.

Article summary

The Wiha PocketMax 45292 stores eight standard 1/4-inch C 6.3 bits inside a magnetic handle magazine. It is a practical compact driver for recurring household and equipment screws, provided its PH, PZ, slotted and Torx sizes match the work.

A loose hinge turns into a longer job when the screwdriver in your hand has the wrong tip and the matching bit is somewhere else. Wiha's PocketMax 45292 addresses that interruption with a simple arrangement: the driver and eight standard bits travel as one tool. Pull the magazine from the back of the handle, choose a bit, fit it into the magnetic chuck, and put the carrier back when the job is done.

That is a meaningful convenience only if the included profiles match the screws you actually meet. The PocketMax is not a universal screwdriver in miniature. It is a compact way to keep a defined set of common bits together.

The handle stays familiar even as the screw profile changes between tasks.

Keep the bits attached to the tool bag's smallest handle

The removable carrier sits inside the handle and uses a magnetic closure. It keeps all eight positions visible at once instead of leaving loose bits at the bottom of a pouch. For cabinet hinges, appliance panels, furniture hardware or general equipment covers, the benefit is continuity: the next plausible tip is already attached to the same tool you brought to the fastener.

The carrier is storage, not a parts tray. Return each bit after use and check that the magazine is fully seated before putting the driver in a pocket or bag. A missing bit still leaves an empty position, and the compact format does not prevent you from dropping a bit during the change.

Check the eight profiles before calling it an all-purpose driver

Wiha supplies two slotted bits, 4.5 and 6.5 mm; Phillips PH1 and PH2; Pozidriv PZ1 and PZ2; and Torx T15 and T20. All eight are standard 25 mm, 1/4-inch C 6.3 bits. That mix covers many everyday screws and, because the bits are standard, Wiha says they can be used manually or with compatible machine operation.

The missing profiles matter just as much. There are no hex, square, security Torx, nut-driver or precision-phone bits in this exact set. Phillips and Pozidriv also look similar but are not interchangeable. Match the marking to the fastener and use a tip that fills the recess; buying a multi-bit handle does not make the wrong profile safe for the screw.

Change bits without giving up a full-size grip

The magnetic chuck holds the selected bit at the front, while the rotating end cap gives the palm a place to steady the driver. Compared with carrying eight separate screwdriver handles, this gives one familiar grip for several profiles and reduces the space taken in a small maintenance pouch.

The design remains a straight manual driver. It does not add ratcheting action, a torque limit or the extra reach of a long dedicated shaft. Deep recesses, stubborn fasteners and repeated high-torque work may be better served by a longer screwdriver, a ratcheting handle or a power tool with the correct bit and setting.

Buy the exact mechanical set, not an imagined electrical tool

Wiha lists 45292 as the mixed eight-bit PocketMax magnetic. The exact page does not identify this model as an insulated screwdriver. If work requires certified protection around electrical hazards, choose the correctly rated insulated tool, isolate the supply and follow the relevant safety procedure; a red-and-black handle or magnetic holder is not an insulation rating.

Buy the PocketMax 45292 when PH1, PH2, PZ1, PZ2, T15, T20 and the two slotted sizes describe the fasteners you repeatedly adjust, and when keeping those bits inside one handle solves a real packing problem. If you routinely need other profiles, precision tips, torque control or longer reach, build the kit around those requirements instead.
