Dremel 220-01 Rotary Tool WorkStation: Set Angles in 15° Increments

THE BUYING TAKE

Choose the Dremel 220-01 when a compatible rotary tool already handles your light bench projects and indexed angles, a depth stop, horizontal holding, or a 16-to-29-inch flex-shaft hanger would solve recurring setup problems. Skip it for heavy drilling, large stock, arbitrary angles, or work that needs a dedicated drill press's mass and spindle control.

Best for
Small craft, model, jewelry, and light workshop tasks that need a supported compatible Dremel at a repeatable indexed angle or depth setting.
The trade-off
The WorkStation does not include a rotary tool and accepts only specifically compatible models. Its head uses 15-degree stops rather than continuous arbitrary-angle locking, and the attachment does not promise the rigidity, capacity, accuracy, or guarding of a dedicated drill press or grinder.

Article summary

The Dremel 220-01 WorkStation holds compatible Dremel rotary tools for drilling at 15-degree indexed angles, repeated depth settings, horizontal bench work, or flex-shaft use. It is an attachment rather than a powered tool, so buyers must verify their exact model and supply secure work holding.

# Dremel 220-01 Rotary Tool WorkStation: Set Angles in 15° Increments

Drilling a row of holes in a small sign, model part, or jewelry blank is awkward when one hand must hold the work and the other must keep a rotary tool upright. The Dremel 220-01 WorkStation gives compatible Dremel tools a fixed support, a lever-fed drilling position, and a base that can be clamped to a bench. It is an attachment, not a powered tool, so the rotary tool, bit, work holding, and safe setup still determine the result.

The purchase case is strongest for light, repeatable bench tasks that are too small for a conventional hand drill but do not justify a full-size drill press. It is much weaker if you expect the rigidity, capacity, or precision of a dedicated machine.

The head indexes in 15° steps from vertical to horizontal

Dremel says the articulating head drills perpendicular or at angles in 15-degree increments, continuing to a 90-degree horizontal position. That indexing is useful when several pieces need the same setup: select a documented stop, secure the base and workpiece, then bring the bit down with the feed lever instead of trying to reproduce a wrist angle by eye.

The stops are discrete; they do not promise every angle between them. Nor do they remove play from the rotary tool, bit, holder, or workpiece. For a one-off hole at an arbitrary angle, a jig may still be the better answer. For a short run at one of the indexed positions, the WorkStation gives you a repeatable reference point.

A depth stop helps repeated holes end at the same setting

The official Dremel shop lists depth markings and a depth stop for consistent depth adjustment. That matters when several shallow holes should stop at the same nominal setting, such as pilot holes in repeated craft parts. Set the stop only after the correct bit is installed and the workpiece is secured, because a bit change or a different material thickness changes the relationship.

The base adds inch and metric markings, four clamping points, cord clips, and onboard accessory storage. Those details reduce setup clutter, but the markings are layout references rather than proof of finished-hole accuracy. Dremel's manual recommends securing the base at a workbench corner where multiple clamps can be used; clamps and mounting hardware are part of the setup, not a reason to hold small work by hand near a rotating bit.

Horizontal holding and the flex-shaft hanger add two bench roles

The same head can hold a compatible rotary tool horizontally for documented sanding, polishing, or grinding tasks. This moves the tool body to a fixed position so both hands can guide a suitably sized workpiece. It does not turn the attachment into a guarded grinder, and every accessory still needs to match the rotary tool's instructions and rated use.

Above the column, the integrated flex-shaft hanger telescopes from 16 to 29 inches. Hanging the tool can keep the flex shaft supported while the handpiece stays free for detailed work. Dremel warns that the WorkStation is for one tool at a time, so do not hang one tool while another is mounted in the press.

Check the current tool list and what is not in the box

Dremel's current US page lists compatibility with models 4300, 4000, 3000, 200, 100, 8220, 8260, 8250, 8240, 3100, and 8150. Older manuals name additional discontinued tools, but that does not make an unlisted current model compatible. Match your exact rotary-tool model to the current list before buying; do not assume that a similar nose shape is enough.

The 220-01 is the WorkStation attachment. A rotary tool is not included, and you still need the appropriate bit, collet or chuck arrangement, eye protection, and a secure way to hold the work. Choose it when a compatible Dremel already serves your light bench projects and indexed angles, a depth stop, horizontal holding, or a flex-shaft hanger would solve recurring setup problems. Skip it for heavy drilling, large stock, arbitrary-angle work, or jobs that require the mass and spindle control of a dedicated drill press.
