A full-size keyboard earns its space when the extra keys make everyday work easier. Logitech MX Keys S combines a number pad, low-profile keys and wireless device switching. Before changing shortcuts, it is worth arranging the desk so that typing and reaching for the mouse both feel natural.

Leave room for the mouse

Begin with the keys you use most. If your day involves entering quantities, dates or spreadsheet figures, the number pad gives those tasks a dedicated area. If you rarely enter numbers, consider whether that additional width is useful on your particular desk.

Place the keyboard where ordinary typing feels centered, then set the mouse beside it. Try a short sequence that alternates between typing and pointer work. A desk arrangement that looks symmetrical is not necessarily the arrangement that reduces unnecessary reaching for you.

Logitech uses dished key surfaces and a low-profile design here. Those are physical design choices, not a promise that everyone will type faster or find the keyboard comfortable. Check the US key layout against the shortcuts and punctuation you use before deciding that it matches your habits.

Keep space for a notebook or document if you regularly work from paper. The goal is a usable working area around the keyboard, not merely enough room to fit its outer edges.

Pair each computer deliberately

The included Logi Bolt receiver and Bluetooth provide two connection routes. Choose the route your computer supports and your workplace permits. Establish ordinary typing first, before installing software or changing key assignments.

Easy-Switch supports three paired computers. Hold the selected channel key for three seconds when pairing; after pairing, use a short press to switch. Make a simple note of which channel belongs to which computer so you do not enter text into the wrong window.

Try switching with a harmless text document open on each machine. Confirm the destination before entering passwords, sending a message or editing important work. The keyboard can change its connection, but it cannot decide which document you intended to use.

If one computer is managed by an employer, check its software policy. Basic keyboard use and advanced customization are separate questions. Avoid building a workflow around an application you are not allowed to install.

Adjust illumination for the actual room

The backlight responds to hand proximity and ambient lighting. Options+ offers brightness and duration adjustments. Treat these as ways to make the keys easier to see in your setting, rather than reasons to keep them at maximum brightness.

Check the keyboard at the times you normally work. A setting that seems useful in a dim room may be unnecessary beside a bright window. Begin with the default behavior, then change a single setting if it interrupts your routine.

Logitech's guide explains that bright surroundings or a low battery can disable illumination. If the lights do not behave as expected, check those conditions before assuming the keyboard has failed. Charge it when needed and reassess in the lighting where you intend to use it.

You can continue typing while charging. Keep the cable accessible enough that charging does not require moving the whole desk arrangement. Do not use a maximum battery-life claim as a forecast of your own remaining time.

Add one shortcut that earns its place

Options+ supports Smart Actions for combining repetitive tasks. Start with a simple, reversible sequence you already understand. Test it with nonessential content and confirm each result before relying on it during live work.

Write down what the assigned key does. A shortcut is useful only when its result is predictable, especially if several computers have different applications or settings. Keep an ordinary manual route available while you learn the new sequence.

The function row also deserves a check: Fn plus Esc changes between media and function-key behavior. Choose the behavior your main application expects, then test familiar shortcuts again.

MX Keys S makes most sense when a full-size layout and repeatable device switching serve real tasks. Give its width a purpose, tune the lighting to the room and add automation gradually.
