A pot that has reached a boil may need less heat for the rest of the meal. The Trangia B25 alcohol burner includes a separate simmer ring for that change. It gives camp cooks a manual way to lower the heat, provided they already have—or plan to buy—a compatible stove around it.

Lower the flame with the simmer ring

The brass burner comes with two different covers: a simmer ring with a movable lid, and a threaded screw cap with an O-ring. The ring controls the flame; the screw cap closes the cooled burner. Keeping those jobs separate matters more than their similar round shapes.

Trangia directs users to put the simmer ring over the burner with its lid open, then adjust the lid to reduce the opening. That gives a meal needing lower heat a useful option beyond running the burner uncovered. You still watch the food and adjust the opening yourself; this is manual flame control, not a temperature setting.

The ring also extinguishes the flame when placed over the burner with its lid fully closed. Use a suitable tool to position or remove the hot ring, following Trangia's instructions. The screw cap is not the extinguishing cover.

Keep the cookset, replace its burner

The B25 is sold as a burner with its ring and screw cap, not as a complete cooking system. A pot, supporting stove structure and fuel are separate purchases. The detail photograph shows it seated in a perforated stove support; the surrounding stove parts are not included.

Trangia lists compatibility with its 25 Large and 27 Small stove systems, plus the Triangle and Mini Trangia. An owner replacing a missing burner in a compatible, serviceable cookset can keep using the existing cookware and supporting structure.

A first-time buyer has a different shopping list. Add the compatible support system and cookware before judging the package's total cost or packed size. Buying the small brass burner alone does not provide the structure needed to hold a cooking pot above it.

Fuel choice changes the cooking routine

Use liquid alcohol-based stove fuel suitable for this burner, such as appropriate denatured alcohol. Trangia prohibits gasoline and other petroleum-based fuels; gels and solid fuel tablets are unsuitable for its internal wick. Check the manufacturer's fuel guidance rather than choosing a bottle simply because its label says fuel.

The stated fill limit is two-thirds of the burner, approximately 100 mL. Follow Trangia's filling instructions and use its recommended safety-cap fuel bottle. Work outdoors only, on a stable, level setup away from flammable materials, and never leave the burning stove unattended.

Refilling creates a real pause in the meal. The flame must be completely out and the burner cool enough to hold comfortably with bare hands before adding more fuel. If a long cooking session needs another fill, that cooling interval belongs in the plan. It is not a burner to top up while cooking continues.

Finish cooking before packing the burner

To pack up, extinguish the flame with the closed simmer ring and allow the burner to cool completely. Trangia's current care guidance says to empty it before packing because stored fuel can leak. An O-ring in the screw cap does not turn the burner into a transport fuel bottle.

Ordinary care is modest: Trangia says food or dirt can be wiped or rinsed away with water, followed by thorough drying. The lid's O-ring can deteriorate and may eventually need replacement. Store the dry burner in a separate protective bag to keep it from direct contact with aluminum cookware.

The useful rhythm is lower heat when the food calls for it, deliberate extinguishing, then time to cool and empty. That final pause is part of owning this simple alcohol burner, just as much as adjusting the flame during the meal.
